Hi,
I just upgraded to the new Comfort Gen II board.
The main reason for the upgrade was to use 4 Rios and 8 Scence switches.
I am using the new Configurator V2.1.0.
When I try to increase the Number of SCS/RIO, it would not allowed more than 8 (range 0 to 8).
Please let this be a Configurator issue and NOT an issue with the new board.
What would be a work around as I set this weekend to complete my installation.
PLease help

It is a problem with Comfigurator which limits the number to 8
Use your keypad to set the number of SCS/RIO in Location 1676, then reset
The next version will have this fixed

The next version 2.2.0 of Comfigurator is a major upgrade and is many months away
In the meantime I think this workaround can handle the situation as you would not need to download so often

I still have problems
1. Setting location 1676 to 9 and using ANY of the 7 available addresses( I used 8 already) gives me a communication failure 89.
2. The SCS/RIO in Comfigurator only handles 64 responses 129 -193 (129 + (8 X 8)).
This is major set back for me as this is my third upgrade to just accomodate my installation of 12 RIOS/SCS.
Months away from the next release is disappointing.
What's my alternatives/work around (if any, at this stage) ?
Thanks

Have you set the ID switches for J1 (A to D) for ID 9 accordiing to the RIO Manual?
You should not be seeing Commmunications Failure 89 if it is correct
You should also reset Comfort after changing the location 1676
There are locations for programming RIO responses oncxe you have fixed the communications problem

The chances of me not setting the jumper settings incorrectly is pretty much slim at this stage considering I have 8 such address already working.
I did reset the system after setting location 1676 to 9.
It is a Scene switch that is giving me this problem not a RIO. Would you get a communication error if there are no responses associated with an address ?
May I be bold in asking whether the Comfort GEN II has been tested for more than 8 RIO/SCS ?
If yes, what could the problem be other than an incorrect address ?
Thanks
Reuben

Hi Reuben,
When you said "Setting location 1676 to 9 and using ANY of the 7 available addresses( I used 8 already) gives me a communication failure 89", do you mean to say that you tried to change the ID jumpers without resetting the SCS/RIO after doing so?? The SCS/RIO would need a power cycle as well after you change the jumpers.
To program the responses, you could make use of keypad programming at this stage.
Regards.

Yes I did a reset
Would the SCS led's flash if no reponse is associated with a switch ?
Where can I find the doco to load SCS/RIO reponses via the keypad ?
Is there a .bat file I can use to upload these using RS232 comms ?

Yes, the SCS LED will flash if no response is assigned to the buttons and the button is pressed as mentioned in the SCS manual under "LED indicator".
Guess you would need to read up the "Action Codes Reference" and "Engineer Menu Programming" to get an idea of how to program using the keypad.
There is no executable file for the response assignment at the moment.

Hi,
This is a slog. You know what I need to do, can you assist me by giving me the reference page numbers of the "Action Codes Reference" and "Engineer Menu Programming" manual to fast track this process.
Thanks

You will have to solve the problem as to why the RIO is not being detected. Comms failure 89 means that Comfort is not seeing the RIO on ID 9. That is regardless of whther Comfort II works with 15 RIOs or not (which it does). As Adrian says, power off and on the RIO after setting the ID
The updated RIO manual showing the Locations for programming RIO responses is now on the website in the Manuals section. This gives you the locations to proram the responses using the keypad in Engineer Menu 7,4,1 (Locations Menu)

Hi,
Thanks, will play around with this during the week and will feedback with my progress.
I noticed that the location numbers are different for RIO 1- 8 in file system 24 compared to file 34.
So guess that my current 8 RIO/SCS would have new locations after converting from 24 to 34 file system.

No, the RIO locations for File System 24 and 34 are identical
Locations for File System 18 are different from that of 24 and 34
Please note that for File system 24 and 34, each Response requires 2 locations as explained in that section aboujt the locations

You are quite right, yet again.
Seems like I missed a system reset somewhere for comms failure 89, so that fine.
Implementing RIO 9, I go the location menu and select 4736 and I am prompted for a code. I assumed this code to be a response number, so I entered 181 for 4736 and 4738.
I then went to the programming response menu
Entered response no 181#
then
128,181,2,128,193,2,255
I did a system reset
Undid and replaced the power on the SCS
Pressed button 1 and it flashes non stop.
My intention was to toggle the state of output 181 (from RIO7) and 193 (RIO9)
What am I missing ?
NB : On RIO 7, I have the following outputs still available 181 to 184 (unused)

Hi,
I suspect that you might have left out programming locations 4737 and 4739. Guess you might have missed out on this point in the worksheet:
"Response Numbers have to be entered in 2 successive Locations. If the Response number is less than 256, enter the Response number in the 1st location and enter 0 in the next location. For example to enter Response 123 for SCS/RIO ID 1, Input 2 - ON Response, enter 123 in Location 4484 and 0 in Location 4485. If the Response number is greater than 255, divide the number by 256, and enter the remainder in the first location and the quotient in the 2nd location. For example, to enter Response 1000 in SCS/RIO ID 1, Input 2 - ON Response, 1000/256 = 3+ 232/256. Enter 232 in Location 4484 and 3 into Location 4485"
What you have programmed are actually the ON/OFF responses instead.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
You can't possibly be serious !!
This is becoming quite tedious, how long did you say before the next release of Comfigurator ?
As an interim solution, take my example of the outputs I want to toggle, is it possible for you to put this formula/calculation on a spreadsheet and indicate with columns would be used in the location codes ?
A detailed flow of my example would be a nice place to start.
Your co-operation will be highly appreciated

If you response numbers are less than 256 then it is simple, just set the next location to 0
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Implementing RIO 9, I go the location menu and select 4736 and I am prompted for a code. I assumed this code to be a response number, so I entered 181 for 4736 and 4738.
I then went to the programming response menu
Entered response no 181#
then
128,181,2,128,193,2,255
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In your example above, you just need to set Location 4737 and 4739 to 0
I dont think it is that challenging
