With more of us getting Raspberry Pi's, has Cytech considered the possibility of porting the CWS (Comfort Web Server) software to this platform?
It seems to me that the CWS platform has failed to go mainstream (a) because of price being too high and (b) because the hardware becomes obsolete to quickly (and retooling for this takes too long or not viable).
But with the Pi being next to nothing to buy (approx. £35 + cost of SD card in the UK) then this would address (b) above for a start as this hardware isn't going anywhere and in fact is still in it's infancy. I assume the software is unix based too so porting would be relatively easy?
The Raspberry Pi could then mount inside the main Cytech chassis and presumably also be powered by the main power supply too (if the thing can run on a couple of AA batteries then surely the PS can power it too)?
All Cytech would maybe need on the hardware side is maybe a small daughtercard to allow the pi to connect to the comfort bus and the pi has expansion bus headers for this sort of thing that hobbyist's and other companies are falling over themselves to provide add-ons for so again this is a developing standard and hot-topic?
People could be free to order their Pi's directly from local suppliers and Cytech supply a preloaded SD card and interface (if needed) to hook it all together. Cant see all of this costing more than say £100 all-in!Attachment: pi.jpg (Downloaded 69 times) Last edited on Saturday Jan 12th, 2013 10:51 am by juwi_uk
