Hi,
In writing clients applications for Comfort, and now especially at looking at the iPhone Application post (http://www.comfortforums.com/forum22/1439.html), I have a wish that I believe would making writing client applications (and especially for devices like the iPhone) a lot easier.
My wish: a (or a set of) commands in the RS232 command set that allows a client to ask Comfort for the Home Control Menu (potentially even the entire keypad menu, including "F" keys). This would include getting the words of the menu as a description that can be used on the client application, the feedback that the menu provides and the ability to exectute a menu item.
I know all this information is all available in the ccl file, but client applications are not always able to use this mechanism. The iPhone is a good example where loading this file onto the iPhone is very difficult. Customers are also put off by solutions that don't just work out of the box and that require complex configuration, even if that configuration only requires loading a file (which often they don't have). Also, a solution based on the ccl would require the file to be reloaded every time the configuration changes. If Comfort could provide this information directly to the client, then it would always be up to date.
It would be fantastic (and I believe a real competitive advantage for Comfort) if this could be applied to every aspect of the RS232 protocal. For example, Comfort know the name of a zone via the word list. If a client could ask for a list of zones and their names (and other configuration information), then the client application would be able to configure itself and display all the required iformation without the customer having to configure/load/do anything.
Many thanks,
Clinton.
