Odd one this - although ive seen comfort do this many time swith these 'phantom' phone calls.
Basically, someone called the house, but declined to leave a message. But, there was a message - the standard BT "please hang up and try again'. You only get this when YOU have initiated a call.
So it would seem someone hung up and didnt leave a message but comfort detected that someone tried to leave a message, but the phone was already closed. It then opened up the phone line !
Perhaps related to the phantom calls

When the caller put down the phone during or after the greeting message, Comfort may have gone ahead to record the message anyway as it takes a few seconds to detect that the caller has hung up
While Comfort is recording the message pm a cleared line, I presume BT will do that announcement since it thinks someone has not hung up the phone, hence Comfort recorded it as part of the message. Does this explain it?

That message is a standard BT message after some time when you have initiated the call.
The caller hung up - but Comfort picked up the line again - BT then expects you to dial a number. So Comfort recorded this message. I've had this many times with the ringer set to 0 in Night Mode - which I still NEED.

I think you get this message when the caller has hung up but your phone is still offhook. That would make sense. The caller has hung up but Comfort is still recording so BT thinks you did not put the phone down
The same thing explains the "phantom" calls in Night mode when you set 0 or 1 ring. My guess is a spurious signal on the line is detected as a ring signal, and Comfort answers and plays the greeting message, but there is no caller connected. Hence the recorded message is heard and recorded. This does not happen if you set 2 rings so that would tend to confirm my theory. The only thing we may be able to to is to validate the duration of the incoming ring pulse beyond a minimum time to consider as a valid ring

You will ONLY get that BT message if YOU have originated the call. You will never get that message if the other party has called you and you dont hang up.
In this case, Comfort has picked up the line when it shouldn't have or ever needed to. I would consider this a bug.

Then that is really a mystery
There should be no reason the Comfort would pick up the phone after a caller hangs up without recording a message, but if it worked the other way round like what I thought then it would explain everything

I've had this when the rings were set to 0 in night mode - you said that wasnt Comfort's fault. I've had messages on the system with this BT message.
Are you so sure there isnt an issue ? I really really really want 0 rings in night mode. It's supposed to be an automation system !

The "phantom" ring in Portugal is detected by Comfort as one ring, so it may have a bearing on your problem. This problem was identified and solved recently
As you have a UCM05, try the firmware

Could you elaborate on what the problem was (with Portugal) ? I'm specially keen to understand as I was pretty much told I was talking &^&^* with my problem :-)
I'd like to know if this is related - last thing I need is this problem occurring again in the middle of the night waking us all up !

OK, I set the Night Mode rings to 0 earlier today.
Just this moment ago, the keypad (loudly) at 10.38pm started shouting out the BT standard message "please hang up and try again"
So, even tho no one has called the house - Comfort has decided to pick up and hold open the phone line, causing this BT error message, You get this message on any BT line and dont dial a number and not hang up.
So the problem is still there. I have one phone on this line via a BT ADSL Master Socket (not using those plugin filters at all). Comfort is on the filtered side. This needs to be fixed. I've been reporting this for a year.

In Portugal, when Answering Machine Bypass is turned on, Comfort always answered after 3 rings no matter what the number of rings was set to. When answering machine bypass was off, Comfort answered after the number of rings + 1
A technical explanation is needed here - It seems that when the first ring occurs Comfort detects two rings which causes it to miscalculate the default silence between rings as shorter than it should be, say 2 seconds. The next ring occurs after much more than 2 seconds so Comfort considers the call ended and a new call has started which satifies the Answering machine bypass condition.
We have fixed that problem in 5.113, but it may not be related to your problem

It would appear it's not related, no.
How can we progress this ? This has been a problem for a very long time.

This has happened again yesterday.
Someone called the house, didnt leave a message and hung up. The Comfort picked up the line, and recorded the outgoing call as a message - resulting in a message with the standard BT message "please hang up and try again" when you dont dial a number.

I did that straight away when the probelm re-occurred !
That only sorts the random keypad night mode madness. Doesnt stop the system making phantom ansafone messages.

Ouch,
This post may have been made when we were having problems with the forum not sending notification emails for posts
I am afraid we cannot make progress on this unless we can duplicate this and see for ourseves. Is there anyone in the UK or elsewhere who has encountered this problem

I can quite happily duplicate with ease - I did report this a year ago.
And on that basis, how could we trap any information/debug ? When it happens, the logs dont report anything- Ive tried it with wizcomfort and no ringing is reported from comfort even tho it picks up the line. i have homeseer logging 24x7 and that also doesnt report any notifications.
As this is a right royal PITA, Im willing to go the extra mile here to get this resolved. The BT line it's on has one Master socket with a proper BT ADSL faceplate (not filters) and has one phone (dect base station - panasonic).
