Charlotte has been helping me for the last 17 years and I need for her to help me a little more. Here's the setup- Comfort board # A001279 Firmware=M4.82 File Sytem = FS-18 US Residential
- 1 Local Expansion Module # LEM01
- 1 Ringer Module # RG01
- 3 Keypads # KP01
- 1 Doorstation Module # DP01
- Voice Chip # JE7 Voice-Charlotte (British Hong Hong) Word list= Charlotte Br HK
- Software=CSX-press version 2.05 Upgraded 05/31/2003 Firmware=Outside 4.172
- 1 Universal Control Module # UCM01 UCM-5.43 UCM Board = PC01-017E
- 1 Ringer Module # RGR03
- Software=Comfigurator 1.1.6 Upgraded 11/30/2005 text_editor.focus(); Software=Comfigurator 1.6 Currently running Comfigurator 2.2.3
I would like to move to a UCM/usb and from what I read I need to get the comfigurator to at least 3.0 or better. My current UCM01 seemed to have passed last week and the RS232 is pretty old technology like me. If anyone can shed some light on what they think I should do please chime in. I am nor really looking to upgrade the whole thing just get back up and keep all of my old X10 junk working too. Like a ucm05/usb and more a more current version of comfigurator if possible. Not into the android stuff or iphone stuff much but would to the daughter board making it switchable to Ethernet or USB wither way. SlyChiu please tell LiChiu hello for me as it has been way to long since I said Hello to him. Respectfully, Carl Ford If I got a ucm05 what is the latest comfigurator that will work.
added5/6/17
After reading for the 2rd day I now realize that since my setup is so old there might not be much help for me. Is there a place where I can download like Comfigurator 3.1.1 or an older version than what is on the cytech.biz website so I can start updating the ccl files that I do have ???
Thanks Again,
Carl Ford

There is no much that can be done to upgrade parts of your Comfort 1 system without upgrading the whole system, as Comfort 1 was replaced 12 years ago
If you do want to upgrade we can work out a good upgrade discount for you being such an old customer.
If you wish to use older versions of Comfigurator 3 you can download from http://www.cytech.biz/comfigurator.html
Older versions of Comfdigurator 2 can be downloaded from http://www.cytech.biz/comfigurator_v2.html

Thank you for your quick response. It looks like I need to upgrade at least the ucm01 to a UCM/usb or the one with the daughter boards that interchange so Ether or USB or RS232 would work as the UCM01 of mine is dead or dying. Then it seems that depending on which UCM I end up with that determines which v3 of comfigurator I can use. So Which board is recommended and which version of v3 comfigurator ?? Let me know how much to send you and where to. Paypal or International Money Order or whatever you need. Thank you again and to your whole family too. Respectfully, Carl Ford

The problem is that UCM/USB or UCM/ETH03 may not be compatible with Comfort 1, or you may have to use a version of Comfigurator 2. We do not even have any working Comfort 1 around, so I dont know if you want to take a risk to buy the UCM/USB
Do any other users have expereince with UCM/USB with Comfort 1?

Sounds like Carl has had his "monies worth" of his old Comfort 1 system but now time to "bite the bullet" and move to Comfort 2!! 😉
Whilst Cytech are Fab at supporting us, we shouldnt expect miracles for, what is now, long deprecated equipment.
Time to get the wallet out Carl!! 😀

There is no doubt that I have received my monies worth from her and Comfort. Cost is not the issue. Just looking for another way to get into comfort like USB or Ethernet. Even if I had to back up to the RS232 I just need the hardware to do that. If anyone that has upgraded and still has their old comm board I would like to get ahold of it or anyone had ever found the correct hardware to mend the original UCM with a UCM/USB please let us know. I do want to thank slychiu and has family for being of help for the last 17 years. I have to go back to the mainland tomorrow for more CT scans and will probably be in and out but I will check my email daily if anyone else has had any luck interfacing the old with the newer. I could even ship my old UCM to a repair shop if anyone has had any luck that way. I think I even remember programming the UCM with charlotte's voice many years ago. maybe there is still a way in. Oh well Thanks to all and if you think of any ideas please let me know. Respectfully, Carl

Isn't the newer UCM going to be "talking" and "listening" to commands on the rs485 bus that the older comfort 1 MPU is not going to understand?
Carl, maybe ask the community on this forum if anyone still has one of these old ones for sale too as I'd bet people who have already upgraded may still have one of these sat in the back of a cupboard somewhere gathering dust and may be able to help you out?
Have you tried any of the distributors to see if they have any old stock still?Last edited on Tuesday May 9th, 2017 10:11 pm by juwi_uk

How about this. Since my UCM01 talks to Comfort as evidenced by the red and green Led's on the right but not the ones os the left which show communications to and from a pc could a ucm/usb be installed as the 2nd ucm while leaving ucmo1 in place ??? after all ucm01 just doesn't talk to or listen to the pc but something installed as a 2nd ucm module specifically a usb if possible ??? anyone ever try something like this setup ??? Thanks for listening. Carl

OK just got back to the island after a 2nd round of radiation. I did bring and install a (new to me) rs232 ucm and everything seems to be back to normal. Thanks to everyone for their help in this matter. Now just one more thing I was trying to upgrade to comfigurator 3 and it seems to work except sometimes it says that my ucm is not recognized due to it being too old of a firmware ?? Is there a way to satisfy the search for an old ucm that is definitely working ??? Again thanks to every one for the help and the direction that led my Charlotte back home. Carl

It may not be the UCM, but Comfort 1 that does not respond to the commands
