- bod - 08-10-2006 Hi, I want to patch the rs232 cable through cat5 cabling. However the rs232 cable has 9 pins (and cat5 only has 8 pins). Are all the pins needed for comfort, or can i miss one out? Thanks - adlim - 08-10-2006 Hi, Basically, Comfort only needs to make use of 3 pins: Pins 2, 3, and 5. - Warby - 05-07-2008 Are pins 2,3 crossed over or straight thru? 2-2,3-3 or 2-3,3-2 Thanks - admin - 05-07-2008 It depends on what it is connecting to. The UCM cable has one male and 1 female at the ends. In this cable, the connections are straight through 2-2, 3-3, 5-5. The male connector is plugged into the UCM and the female end into the PC If you are connecting the UCM to a serial interface of another device with a connector which is the same sex as the UCM ie Female, then you need a Male to Male serial cable, and in the cable you would need to cross 2 and 3, ie 2 - 3 and 3 - 2, while 5 remains connected to 5 (common) |
