CBUS Ulti vs Wireless
#1
Hi,

I\'m considering using wirless CBUS in a retrofit but before I dive in - an early question into the types.

What is the difference between Ulti and Wireless?

My guess at a high level is that Ulti is standalone and doesn\'t link to the CBUS network and switches are receiver only.  Wheras you can do pretty much anything with the wireless range that you can with the wired, including talk to the CBUS network and wired devices.

I\'m guessing also that in terms of automation and programming from comfort, Ulti would not be able to determine state (on/off) if the switches were operated manually, i.e. receiver only.  Whereas wireless switch functionality should be exactly the same as CBUS wired switches?

Any advice appreciated - or perhaps someone wants to talk me out of CBUS into another wireless lighting system that is cheaper?  I\'m not sure anything would be as flexible as CBUS though.

Thanks

The main difference is that Ulti is one way and C-Bus wireless is 2 way
UCM/Ulti works with Ulti. Comfort can send scene commands to Ulti switches but it cannot get status back at all.

Comfort talks to Cbus wireless via the UCM/C-Bus so you need a Cbus network in the house in order for that to work Control is two way, ie Comfort can send commands to C-Bus and get status. Cbus switches are also able to control Comfort via Counter Responses.

Hence C-Bus wireless is much more powerful than Ulti.

Thanks.  Just what I thought.

It\'s pretty expensive though.  Also wondering if anyone has used a cheaper alternative (with similar capability) with Comfort and thoughts on comparison to CBUS?

Did you see Juwi_UKs post about his ZWave experience? http://www.comfortforums.com/forum62/1638.html

It is wireless, not as powerful as Cbus buta less expensive alternative
