Connecting from PC to Comfort

Hi

We have an Alarm Monitoring and Installing company, and a new client of ours have
a Comfort alarm installed.
We need to change the following:

Monitoring Communicator Phone Number: 55
Communication format: Contact ID
Monitoring Account code: 1234
Dialing Method: DTMF
Number of redails: 3
DISABLE: Phone Line Monitoring
ENABLE: Blind or Forced Dialing. ie No dial tone
Automatic test report: every 14 days @ 12h00
DISABLE: Open/Close reporting


I have zero experience with this system, and would like to know how I would
connect from my Laptop to a Comfort using FS18 with RS232.

Do I simply connect my serial cable to the UCM01 ( if the client have one )
and hit connect in the Comfigurator?
And then read tha Comfort data?

Comfort File system 18 is Comfort I Pro. Open Configurator (latest version is at http://www.comfortforums.com/forum20/1798.html ), go to Options > Settings> UCM Connection > select Serial and the COM Port. If the customer has a UCM01 (older model) it is using Rs232 interface. The UCM Rs232 port should be copnnected to the PC serial port.

Go to Transfer > System Information to read the system information from comfort which shows that you can connect to Comfort

You should have the customers original ccl or cclx file with the configuration to start with.

The CMS parameters are in Security > CMS. Here you set the account code, and format (Contact ID is by default)

The telephone number is in Security > Phone Numbers
Set phone 1 to CMS and enter the telephone number.

in Configuration > Modules and Settings, you can find
Wait for Dial tone
Ignore Line Cut


In telecoms > Dialing, you can find Maximum Redial tries

Go to Alarm Types and select which alarm should dial to the CMS ie Phone 1. There are 8 phones which can be enabled to disabled in any combination for each alarm
Alarm Type 17 is Disarm and alarm type 19 is armed (Open and close) so uncheck the Dialout box for these and other alarms which you dont want to dial out

Automatic reporting
You can use Time Programs to schedule a dial out to the CMS. However it is easier to do it every 7 days as Time programs are based on days in a week, so you can schedule it say for every Sunday at 12 PM
For  time  programs you select a Response
There is a default Response CMSDialtest (Response 125) which activates alarm type  18 (CMS Test)

Let me know if you have problem programming it or getting the CMS dial out to work, as it may seem difficult the first time you try it

Another very useful tool is to do a Dial test by pressing F3 and 3 on the keypad. This forces an audible  dial out on the keypad to all programmed phones depending on the phone type, and lets you hear the dialling tones. You can actually hear Contact ID!

Hi, the client did not have the RS232 port :?
But it does have a Ethernet port on the panel.

Do I use a straight or cross-over LAN cable to connect
via LAN?
How does the IP addresses work?

Do you mean that the UCM01 has an Ethernet port instead of RS232, see attached photo?
If so you need the DS Manager to configure the IP address, download from https://www.cytech.biz/Default.aspx?cmd=sQ0OYE9X66w%2b0P%2bAcFsmAI3j73Rwtfrj&fileid=201&dcid=4&pageindex=

The UCM/Ethernet can be connected to the network by a straight LAN cable or to the PC by a crossed network cable

mmmm the panel does not look like the one in your picture.
\"X 10\" was written next to the connection on the panel..
and that is obviously used for something else..

Looks like I will need to program with the keypad after all.
I have the Engineer Menu Programming manual, and still need to look through it.

In the Comfiguration software I see at the bottom of the screen that it displays certain numbers.
For example:
at Security - Phone Numbers it displays (2153)= 4,85,255
How does that relate to the locations and values in the Engineer Menu Flowchart?

If you can explain how I can interpret those numbers, then I will be able to access them with the keypad to change them.

( in my example I already changed the phone nr. to 55 and made it a CMS type. )

The photo is of the UCM/Ethernet, not Comfort. You earlier said that the customer may have a UCM01, then you said that he may have a network port so I was trying to establish what is available

The X10 connector is an RJ11 socket, used for the X10 power line  interface

If there is no UCM then you will have to program by keypad, and you will need the Worksheet for File system 18, attached

The numbers on  the bottom of the Comfigurator screen are locations in Comfort, and the values which should be programmed in the locations
Locations can be used to program Comfort if there is no Engineer voice menu to program the  parameter

To access the Locations Menu, go to Engineer menu, ie F0 followed by Engineer Code and # key, then menus 7,4,1 for Locations
Enter Location Number and # key

eg (2153)= 4,85,255

enter 2153# in the Locations menu
The menu will read the programmed value in the location eg 10

You enter the number to be programmed in the location eg 4 followed by #

In most situations there is an Engineer Menu to program the item as detailed in the Engineer programming manual
