I have read the documentation and understand that RIO modules can not be used for alarm inputs.
Out of curiosity, what is the technical difference between LEM and RIO modules that makes this the case?

The LEM is actually part of the Comfort and Slave, being connected to either by a ribbon cable, and its zones are programmed as any Zone Type
RIOs do not have a Zone Type - they are fixed as Normally Open switch and cannot activate any Alarm Type
Their purpose is different - they are supposed to provide addtional inouts and outputs for automation

Thanks for clarifying this.
What is the technical reason for having two different types of I/O expansion? Why can\'t they be dual-purpose?

RIOs have also the capability to receive IR signals from the RC01 remote control.
They are very different in design and purpose and to try to make it universal would make it more costly for all

I suspected that might be the case. Thanks for clearing that up.
