I believe I have located the fault, although everything was disconected I realised that there was a black and red cable connected to the 12V/COM which I overlooked. Removed the cable and reconnected the ethernet & RPI which both then fired up, these cables have never been touched in the last ten years so I will replace those and let you know tha outcome in a few days. Thanks for your insight
