My Door Station has suddenly stopped working.  I can hear the user at the door, but there is not sound at the door station.  It is as if the speaker has been taken out of the door station!

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Paul.

Paul
In your email you say your door station is a DP02 as shown below?

This product is not from Cytech. It is manufactured by another company called Comfort Home Controls who are not related to Cytech the manufacturer of Comfort). They  take our DP03 door station strip  out the PCB and use their own stainless steel plate. If you have problems with this product you have to contact that company, if you are able to do so

Hi there, slightly related question... I too have the Metal Door Phone with Colour camera from Comfort based on DP03, and have the same problem, this is the second time this has happened.

Last time I replaced the paper coned speaker with a mylar coned one ..presuming it was moisture that had caused it to fail. The replacement seems to have gone now after being in service for 26 months. Two questions:

1) I am away from home currently and need to order a replacement speaker and cannot remember the Size (Dia) and Impedance of the speaker fitted to the DP03.. does anyone know this info?

2) Could there be some other reason for these failures other than moisture water ingress?

Many Thanks

Joules

We dont know the size of the speaker used in that product. It should be a 32 ohms speaker 1 watt speaker.
Besides water ingress, a possible cause could be the speaker mounting. if the speaker is mounted such that the speaker cone contacts the metal faceplate when there is voice talking, this could damage the speaker

Again thanks for your very prompt response...

I presumed that the Speaker was the same size as the one used in DP03 is that a 2" Inch Diameter?

the DP03 speaker was about 40 mm, but it may not be the same as what they used

I suggest using the DS02 or DS01, see http://www.comfortforums.com/forum25/1404.html for proper water resistance, so you dont have to keep changing the speakers

I'm in the same boat, second time in about three years.  Clearly some issue with durability of the speaker.  Would appreciate same details so I can order a replacement.

Thanks.

We do not know what speaker they used in that product.
The one used in DP03 is a 40 mm 32 ohms 1 watt speaker, so you need to look for an equivalent.  Or try to contact that company if you can see http://www.comfortforums.com/forum51/1061.html
http://www.comfortforums.com/forum51/1262.html
I strongly suggest changing to the DS01 or DS02 for better reliability

Thanks Chiu,

Yes nice idea, a new DS01 might solve the problem, but at £450 iam afraid i'll have to live with replacing the £2.95 speaker every couple of years. ( Not sure I will live another 300 years to recoup the cost saving :D)  Will look at your suggestion of the speaker touching the metal faceplate as a possible cause of failure.

Pedro..

I presumed replacing the original paper coned speaker with a mylar one would solve the problem... clearly not. As Chiu states the speaker should be a 32ohm 1 watt. Just need the Diameter... do you have yours to hand to measure? I will take mine apart as soon as I get home..but won't be back till the weekend and was hoping to order a replacement so I only had to take it apart once.  Just had a look on the net and having trouble finding 32ohm 1 watt speakers of any size and cannot remember where I sourced the last one.. Anybody got suggestions?

In my DP03 it is a 32 OHM 0.5 W 40mm, in my DP02 it is a 65mm 8 OHM 3 W showing part no. FE202M8NG.

Hope that helps, in the meantime I am going to see if I can make one good doorphone out of three bad ones ;)

Will this work?

That is an 8 ohms speaker which is not trecommended. Look for a 32 ohms speaker

But that is what is in the DP02.  As you say Comfort UK made these panels so presumably fitted a different speaker.

As I said we dont know what they put in there. It is not the correct rating for the door station.

Just for information I contacted Comfort Home Controls and they sent a replacement speaker in the post to me. What arrived was this unit:

http://cpc.farnell.com/mylar/so66m/weatherproof-speaker-66mm/dp/SR00187?Ntt=sr00187

In case anyone needs if for future reference they are available in stock from CPC.

Thanks!

Thanks Podro,

Will order a couple, didn't think they were 66mm. Presumably the reason they fail after 18 months is that they are only 8ohms as opposed to 32ohms. But seeing as I cannot seem to source a suitable 32ohm speaker and cannot afford a new door station, I will have to live with replacing them every 18 months or so.
