Okay thanks, I've found the U2 and you are right: no socket.

Mike, Thanks.
Just to be clear, in the attached close up jpg you mean solder a link between the two point labelled "U2" and "J4" (red arrowed on attached jpg)?

I've upgraded my GSM3 to GSM4. I was very happy to find it already had the U2 IC - I only bought the GSM3 a couple of months ago so assume they have been shipping with it before GSM4 was released? Anyhow, firmware upgrade done, and it just works!

One comment/feature request. When setting the Alarm via SMS I get the GSM4 reply message with the new system state (Day Mode) with list of potential options, and I get a 2nd message confirming systemarmed (as I have dial out set for that on the alarms list). This System Armed SMS reports the user as SMS, rather than the user associated with the GSM number that set the Alarm. Would it be possible for the system to include the user associated with the GSM number that set the alarm in these alarm messages rather than 'user SMS'. Then I can see who of the other users has set or unset the alarm remotely by SMS...

Great stuff - lovely to see the continuous innovation and upgrades for Comfort - I'm happy user!

Cheers, S.

The problem with identifying thr user who armed/disarmed is that the phone numbers are not associated with the users at all in Comfigurator. Phone numbers are from 1 to 8 but we do not know who owns the phone numbers

Yes exactly as you have shown.
Sorry I quickly hand did my arrows.
Let yours now be the master.
For info
The U2 and U3 used to be switched to be Master so there was a three pin jumper so a 2 socket "thingy" could select which was master.
As used in the new config without the 3 pin jumper U2 goes nowhere, but a hard wired link does the job!
Mike

The Mod is worth the effort
Enjoy!!!

Okay I have upgraded to GSM4. As MikeGriff said, the modification is worth the effort. I join with him in thanking all at Cytech for providing this easily attainable upgrade path for those with older versions of the GSM UCM. Thanks also Mike for the help with the jumper.

Although armed with all the right tools I found the emptying of the solder holes non trivial. It took a long time and various rounds of tining, solder sucker; wick etc. Note you can use either socket U2 or U3 provided the link (J4) in between corresponds.

That means you have second life if something goes wrong the first time ...

Nigel
