We are having problems with three KT03s that were installed in May '13 (10 months ago). All three exhibit the same problems but one is much MUCH worse (perhaps because it is the one which is used most of the time)

We were first made aware of it when the homeowner called in a panic because he couldn't disarm his system. He was standing in his hallway with all the bells and whistles making a right royal racket, and no matter how carefully he tried to enter the user code it simply would not register the correct digits. When any of the digits was pressed the screen would register an entirely different digit instead and it was not consistent either...sometimes it would register the correct digit and sometimes not, but never enough times to get the whole user code to register.

Thing didn't improve after a firmware upgrade either.

When we tried to calibrate them guess what....we couldn't! every time it ended with a 'Fail' message. We ended up using a watchmakers screwdriver as a stylus in order to press EXACTLY in the centre of the cross hairs on the calibration screen (but it still took a couple of attempts).

Did this solve the issue? NO IT FLIPPIN' WELL DIDN'T!

Did anything improve at all? Ah well, yes I suppose it did.........a bit.......(reluctantly).

What we had to do is....
Replace the actual touchscreen component in the worst unit and now it seems to be more reliable; it now registers the whole correct user code about 5 times in every 6 attempts but you have to be quite accurate about where you press the digits and be careful about how quickly you enter the code (leave about 2 thirds of a second between digits.)

The others are a little better now but you have to be even more precise when pressing the keys and the whole correct code is registered in about 2 out of 5 attempts.

Has anyone else had issues that compare to this?

Could this be due to 'wear and tear'? because I would hope these units would stand up to more than 10 months of use in an ordinary family home.

As things stand the moment I can't say that we'll be looking to install these units again any time soon.

The digitizer used in the KT03 seems to be similar to my old Pronto NG remote control. After many years of great service my remote started to give similar problems you mentioned. After lots of research I found that the 'ribbon type' cable that connects the digitizer to the mainboard, on the digitizer side, get somehow corroded and starts to give connectivity issues, sortoff like a dry joint.

A quick fix is to use a sharp knife point to press on the dark brown strips to try and get it to make a good connection again. Google 'Pronto Remote Digitizer issues' and you will hopefully find some information.

Anyway, I actually bought two digitizers before they all went off the market to prolong my beloved remote for another good couple of years.

As for the KT03... I think if it's the same issue then over time it will get worse. If you can buy spare screen/digitizer modules then perhaps buy a few and keep them in stock just in case the KT03 is replaced by a more modern design with hi-res colour.

Ingo thanks,  your helpful and constructive information is much appreciated

Cytech will always keep spare parts available for products even if they have been discontinued, unlike some other manufacturers

As customers and users of the forum know, whenever  a problem is reported to us, we will immediately take action to find the cause of the complaint.

The KT03 has been produced for several years and we have not had complaints about every KT03 in the house having calibration problems.  If there are any other users who have encountered this problem, please report

In general resistive touchscreens tend to lose their accuracy over time but not in 10 months.
Calibration has to be done by a pointed but not too sharp object, and not with fingers - it is a matter of physics. In our experience users seldom have to do calibration.
We are investigating if there could be a problem with the calibration or the messages that are seen.
Please return the defective KT03 to us as soon as possible so we can investigate.

The size of the buttons should be as large as possible in order to avoid errors
In the earlier templates, the keys may have been too small and may be susceptible to  location errors. The KT03 keypad template currently has much larger keys as shown below

I have had similar problems with one of my KT03's but the issue seemed to have cleared itself and have not experianced many issues for over a year (On the odd occasion I will have to press keys 2 or 3 times). I actuauly shrunk the button sizes with a gaps between them so there was no cross over on the borders......
