I've installed several versions of Configurator on a windows XP PC connected to my Comfort I system via RS232.

Selecting 'Comfort Entry' as the profile, whenever I start the application I get the following message;

'Error reading file C:\Program Files\Cytech\Comfigurator 3\Config\def17.cctx - There is an error in XML document (6, 731)'

Once I've done this, I cannot change the profile to something else. Here's what I've tried;

-Uninstalling and reinstalling (comfigurator 'remembers' the profile and does not offer the choice again)

-Removing the 'def17.cctx' file (configurator just replaces it on each restart)

-Renaming one of the other .cctx files as 'def17' (same problem occurs)

-Connecting up a different PC and reinstalling (same problem occurs)

So, how do I 'reset' configurator and get to select a different comfort profile?

Thanks

Peter

Thanks for the reply.

As noted,I've tried several versions. Specifically;

3.5.6
3.8.10
3.9.2 (beta)

The problem occurs in all versions on two different machines (both running Win XP)

I also tried with SP1a, SP2 and SP3 to no avail.

If you could advise as to where the initial profile selection is stored, that would help as I could wipe it and experiment with different profiles.

As it stands, once I make a selection on first launch and it fails, I cannot change the selection, even after an uninstall.

Can you send the file C:\Program Files\Cytech\Comfigurator 3\Config\def17.cctx so we can check if there is any problem

I've attached the def17.cctx file. Note that it has not been edited by me in any way. This is from a fresh Configurator install.

Thanks

I also include a screen capture of the error message. Clicking OK on this causes Configurator to disappear.

The software developer is on holiday
I believe it may be C:\Users\..\AppData\Local\Cytech
Delete the folders names Comfigurator and  uninstall Comfigurator

When you install Comfigurator again uncheck Open Last File on Startup

So, in my case the config files are located here;

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Cytech\

Removing the files there allow me start Comfigurator and select an alternative template. However, no matter which one I select, I get the same XML document error.

I tried moving one of the def files to root of my C: drive to eliminate any pathing issues but the same error occurs.

I had hoped to upgrade to Comfort II but if I can't get Configurator to run, that will be futile.

Any further assistance of ideas greatly appreciated.

Peter

Do you mean you have tried it on different computers all with versions of XP?

We will have to wait till our software developer comes back so that he can check the problem

  • Toshiba Laptop with Windows XP SP2
  • Dell Desktop with Windows XP SP1a, SP2 and SP3
Happy to wait for developer to return.
Thanks for the help so far!

Probably a longshot but have you tried the "Update Defaults" action from the File menu to download a new set from the Cytech Website?

Hi Julian

Unfortunately, I cannot get application to launch (in order to access the file menu)

When I select the template on initial startup, I am presented with the above option. Clicking OK quits comfigurator .

Can you check if you have Windows XP SP3 with .NET Framework 3.5 SP1

This is needed for Comfigurator to work on XP
