I've used the Save to event log action in a response which works as described, i.e. logs "custom event" plus the numeric parameter I supply... this is 'workable' after a fashion, since I only want (at the moment) to log a limited number of non-security events to the log...

but, looking in the eventlog.cfgx file, the very first entry is specifically what I would like to record... - "zone activation" - is there any way of forcing that event to be logged? right now, I want to get one particular PIR activation to be logged in all non-armed security modes as I want to monitor access to a particular area.

I guess I could edit the eventlog.cfgx file & change the text string for event type 34 from "custom Event" to "Zone activation" - but how to pass the correct zone number as the parameter?

I'd much rather have an additional option in the zone configuration settings in Comfigurator... much as there is an option currently for "Announce zone" an option to "Log zone" would be perfect - any chance of this happening? - I know it has been stated in other posts on this topic that the event log is primarily for security events rather than automation, but surely even in non-armed modes it could be considered a security event to monitor access to certain areas of a premises?

Alternatively, can we have a save to event log action where the parameter is one of the 34 event types listed in the file? - thus the current custom event method would need to change to have 2 parameters, - the first being "34" (custom event type) and the second being the users custom parameter number...

The ability to use "Send to event log 0" in a zone on response and have that appear in the log as "Zone activation Storeroom PIR" for instance, would satisfy my needs...

The zones are only recorded to the event log if it causes an alarm otherwise PIRs may fill up the event log very quickly

If you want to record a specific PIR, you can assign the zone to  zone type Monitor NC which is immediate in all modes  but triggers Family Care alarm (instead of Intruder)
This may be OK if you want to monitor the zone instead of causing an alarm with it - it is usually used to track false alarms.

Alternately, keep the same zone type and make a Zone Response to Do Alarm - Family Care. This will record the family care alarm in the event log whenever the PIR detects, and will not affect the intruder alarm behaviour

Or my Object Matrix watcher utility in ComfortClient can capture all activity and then you can then selectively export the results to file. Only caveat is obviously pc needs to be on running CC for that duration;  I'm running a small atom based fan-less micro atx setup with ssd disk 24x7 that consumes around 25 watts as my "always on" pc.
