This is a new feature from last year which missed being announced here

The UCM/ETH03 has new features

  • Sending of emails to 4 email addresses for 31 Alarm Types. You can now be notified by email in the event of any alarm.
  • Synchronisation of Comfort's Date and Time with an Internet Time Server. Time Programs will always run at the correct time
  • Simultaneous connection to 2 ports so 2 phones, tablets or computers can connect as a time. Previously only 1 connection at a time is allowed.

Please visit the UCM/Eth03 forum at http://www.comfortforums.com/forum113/3695.html for more details

Service and maintenance
We have always placed our service department telephone number in all of out Comfort installations.
So Comfort will call us in the case of a low battery or coms failure etc etc
The e-mail option has enhanced our offering to the customer and now provides us a viable option not only to remote monitor but have permanent connection to comfort to initiate any changes upgrades etc that may be required
Thanks
A step in the right direction.

Slychiu,

I have a ucm usb, can I make this a ucm/eth03 by purchasing the eth03 submodule ?

And if I do this, can I retain my existing ucmeth to have two eth connections to comfort ?

Yes you can have both ucms with ETH03 or even up to 8

However, only one of them should be setting Comfort time by Internet time sync, to avoid confusion

And my ucmusb can be converted to a ucmeth03 by just adding the eth03 submodule ?

Well, eth03 arrived, and installed and everything working.

I live in a rural area and have no phoneline, but comfort work over my broadband, so its great to be able to receive notifications via email, also the 2 ports is a great improvement.

Some question/queries on it though.

1) The inability to use google apps as my smtp server is a bit limiting, I did use the sugested service smtpcorp that cytech proposed and this works, but is limited to 20 emails per day. Would run out of that just doing some testing. Any plans to allow google mail functionality
2) Username character limit is a bit irritating, I have had to establish a dedicated email to work around this.
3) Is it possible to add some default ext to the outgoing email ?

Can see loads of potential in this, very keen on the webserver demo to see what plans are around it.

Also, are there plans to integrate the etho3 into the app, to allow the app take push notifications from comfort, ie, for comfort to talk direct to the app ?

Google and yahoo mail server require encryption which is not done right now (but may be considered in future)
You can pay a small amount for practically unlimited emails

2) Username character limit is a bit irritating, I have had to establish a dedicated email to work around this.
I remember that the charatcetr length was increased?
Also it is often possible to enter username wiithout the domain
eg chiu instead of chiu@cytech-technology.com

what is default ext?

We have been looking into it but it will not be in the very near future, as we have lost our resource for iOS app development

Hi slychiu
Thanks for the reply.
I meant default text, like in thr email header "message from glenegare alarm system" or something like that.
The character length still seems short for me, with  my email address its eamonnogorman at glenegare.com  it can be worked around though as you said.
RegardsEamon

There is a workaround I've used for this before. You can do unlimited emails within reason.

1. Setup a dedicated gmail account for your Comfort system.
2. Set the ETH03 to send your alert emails to the email address you just set up.
3. Set the server to be aspmx.l.google.com and the port to be 25. Leave the username and password blank.
4. Log into the gmail web interface and setup a forwarding rule for your Comfort emails to the actual destination email addresses.

Google will accept emails from anybody using SMTP so long as the destination is actually a domain they're hosting e.g. gmail. Once the email has been accepted, the gmail server will then forward it to whatever other email address you want.

If you've got Google Apps running your domain then create a new mailbox on your domain instead.

You should log into this gmail account at least once a year to make sure that it doesn't go inactive though. Google may delete inactive accounts.

I followed your instructions

set up a gmail address to send emails to
put aspmx.l.google.com as server port 25

user and password blank

I am looking for emails to the gmail address so I am not forwarding it

see the screenshot

But no email is received at the email address?

Am I getting anything wrong?

That should be everything. Is there anything in the spam filter in gmail?

I'm not sure why it isn't working for you. I can't test it at the moment as I'm away and don't have an ETH03 with me.

No there is no spam filter, I used the same gmail address for the smtpcorp server

Perhaps someone else can check if it works for them

The email facility is certainly a very useful one but I have discovered one slight snag though.

I set up a custom alarm type in Comfigurator using the previously unused alarm type no. 23. I renamed this in Configurator but neither Comfort Server Manager nor the email reflects this. It still appears as'unused' in CSM but the email states 'ForceArm' instead, which corresponds to neither the CSM nor the Comfigurator description.

Could this possibly be rectified?
