I was trying to add a very basic user this morning. I added a user code in User04; tried what I had in mind but then decided that I didn't need the user after all. I removed the user code, leaving my current three users 'as is'.
However, now I cannot perform ANY programming! If I try to do anything, the 'Enter User sign in code' dialog appears. I enter the code I always use; there is a short delay and a message appears "Failed to connect to UCM - please check UCM connection settings'. The UCM is an ETH03 v7.061. I can open the Comfort Sever Manager (CSM) and see my UCM; ping it; read SMTP and email information etc so it appears to be working perfectly. But still I get the 'Failed to connect' message whenever I now try to enter my user code! I rebooted the CSM; refreshed etc but to no avail. Of course, I can't reset or perform any other function from Comfigurator as it just asks for my code - and fails to connect. Help! What do I need to do? Many thanks for any assistance!

I may have solved my own problem! I set the user code for my 'new user' as (the original default) 1234 - probably not the best idea? Did this stop other codes working? I've disconnected power and battery; reconnected and all is now working as it should be. Sorry I panicked!

"Failed to connect to UCM" has nothing to do with the user code
This means that there is no connection to the ETH03. It may be due to a network problem or wrong IP address and port
If the user code is wrong, the message would be "Login Not valid for requested operation"
setting the user code to 1234 does not prevent other codes from working. The issue you encountered may be a temporary network problem unrelated to the user code

Thanks for the prompt reply. It was very strange. I'd suggest there was NO network problem. I could "see" the UCM on my LAN; read from it ; ping it etc. The IP address and port settings had not changed from their previous values - as evidenced by CSM recognising it etc. In that respect, everything looked as normal as it ever does. But those user codes just would NOT work from Comfigurator! But, doing a complete power reset on the box has solved the problem, and I've saved a copy of the config file in the UCM EEPROM to be sure. I might try my "test" again but use a code other than 1234 for the 'test' user and see if the situation replicates. It caused a few panic moments when I couldn't do anything! Oh, and I guess I'd never have seen if the user code was wrong since the UCM never 'saw' it!

another reason for not being able to connect is that the port/connection be already in use
Only 1 connection is allowed at a time for each port
There are 2 ports so 2 connections can be active at a time, but on different ports
You can check if each port is idle or busy in CS Manager

I understand. I'm sure they were both showing as 'idle' - although I can't replicate the issue now, of course. I think I would have noticed if they were busy. I did try adding a new user with a code of 9988 and then deleting, as before, and everything continued to work as expected. Maybe it was some strange random event.....
Thanks again for all your very prompt help.
