I've not done any upgrades for a while but I'll be making some changes soon to the units I control, so a good time for a general refresh.
Am I right in thinking I need to use a UCM cable for all of these updates below? The UCMs that says "unknown" are not upgradable, they are the older type.
Thanks

Firmware 5.xxx can only be upgraded using the UCM firmware programming cable, see http://www.comfortforums.com/forum4/1216.html for instructions
Other UCMs and modules firmware >= 6 can be upgraded by Comfigurator provided the Comfort and UCM used by Comfigurator) firmware is at least version 7
See all the instructions on firmware upgrading here http://www.comfortforums.com/view_topic.php?id=3400&forum_id=128&jump_to=14665#p14665
The "unknown " versions may  be Comfort 1 UCms which cannot be upgraded at all
Your UCM/Cbus 1 can be upgraded to the latest for UCM/Cbus1 but not directly to UCM/Cvus2, see http://www.comfortforums.com/forum11/3755.html

Thanks, I have some planning ahead.
It's not clear on the CBUS UCM whether I can upgrade or not. Would you mind taking a look a the image below?

The good news is that the UCM base board seems to have the U2 IC with EEPROM. It is not clear if it is 24C256 (256Kbits) but at least one can be inserted into the socket
However the Cbus plug in module is the older type (non ST7). You can but a Cbus2 submodule to replace the one you have.
The UCM/Cbus firmware can be upgraded to Cbus 7.045 and then upgraded again to UCM/CBus2 (2 stage upgrade process) as described in http://www.comfortforums.com/forum11/3755.html
UCM/Cbus2 supports different Cbus applications and allows mapping to Counters, sensors flags and virtual Inputs and is a significant improvement which a Cbus user like you should appreciate
