Hi there,

Definite beginner to this! But experience of X10, LightwaveRF, ZWave and Domoticz – so not new to the concept or technology! Apologies for the long post, but I'm hopeful that this is all the information required for me to get some pointers!

Long story short, I've bought a house, which had an install (from what I can gather) around 2009 of Comfort II Ultra (I stand to be corrected on this!). It took quite a lot of research to even find out what it was, as it's just a cupboard full of PCBs! Sadly, quite a lot of it was disconnected by a previous resident, and I've connected some of it back up – to the point that I *think* it should be working-ish. That being said, I can't get any response from either of the 2 keypads (speech, or noise of any kind) – although the external alarm sounder did sound a few times, and it seems to open my garage door when power is restored to it after a power loss!

I've just bought an UCM/ETH03 module for it, in the hope that I can connect it to the network, and at least troubleshoot whats wrong with it, before working out what it was set up to do. Fingers crossed the main firmware is new enough for it (if thats even a thing?).

I think it is a combined Alarm (PIR sensors, with IR receivers in every room) Automation (I have a remote control that can turn lights and sockets on and off) and most likely Flood sensor (sensors in every room with running water, but I think this has been bypassed. I would guess a failed flood sensor caused the water supply to go off!). There is a sensor inside the main front door, and a proximity sensor of some kind next to the patio doors.

The modules I've found so far are:

PC01-051B - main board – CM9000-ULT
PC01-054A RGR daughter on main board Ringer?
PC01-050B - slave to main board SEM02-M2
PC01-057A - small board on slave MPU01-ULT - Microcontroller upgrade
PC01-056B - small board on slave - OP1 - Output board
PC01-059B - LEM - daughter on slave board LEM01-M2
PC01-031C - RIO - 6 ground floor. 1 in basement RIO01
PC01-042A - DPM Door module PC01-044A - remote in sala
PC01-038B - also in sala
Keypads KP03

I think what I'm after, initially at least is:

1) Will the UCM/ETH03 work with it, or will I need something else to update its firmware before I can use the ETH03?
2) Am I likely to be able to get into it with the UCM/ETH03, or will I need passwords etc (or are there default passwords – the biometric door stuff I assume part of the same install was all left on default passwords)?
3) If I can't get in to it, can I do a full reset and start again somehow?
4) Any top tips or do's and don'ts for connecting up the first time, or anything else I need to consider?
5) Can I troubleshoot or test inputs/outputs from the software (I assume this may become self explanatory once its connected it)
6) Is there any advantage to doing any firmware updates, or is it best left as-is?
7) Any initial housekeeping I should do, once I've got into the system (remove older users etc)

Its not a full-time house, but I am heading out next weekend (just for the weekend), and hopefully taking the ethernet module with me, if it arrives in time. So some pointers before that would be really appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Adam Booth

The UCM/ETH03 should be able to work with Comfort 2The first thing to do after you set up and connect the UCM/ETH03 and find its IP address, is to use Comfigurator and Scan for modules so you can see the modules that are connected correctly, and their firmware versions
The default user code is 1234
If that dies not work you can reset the user codes to default by the method shown herehttp://www.comfortforums.com/forum16/2357.html
Dont upgrade firmware yet until you get most things working
If the keypad gas no voice it could be because the IDs are not set correctly to unique ids starting with 1, then 2,3 etcOr ypu may need to upgrade the Vocabulary by Comfigurator

Adam
We have been designing servicing and maintaining comfort systems for over 20 years.Would be happy to answer any questions you have regarding automation and help you get this system back up and running.
Firstly I would start with the main CPU disconnect everything and connect it to the new Ethernet module  - disconnect a keypad from the wall and loose wire it the the panel.
Get the unit talking via the comfigurator software and then check for an upgrade on the main CPU.
One you have this then I would start to add back the main components and upgrade them as you go. One you have the structure all to the latest version THEN you can start getting keypads up and running and looking at the sensors.
If you are methodical about it should be fine if you tackle it head on you will get in an awful mess.

I did check, and the 2 keypads are set to 1 (front door) and 2 (garage/basement), so I guess it may be the vocabulary?

Is that easy enough to fix once I get connected?

Thanks for the link to the page with the reset instructions – I had seen that already and assumed that it may be relevant to getting me back up and running.

Vocabulary Upgreade is described in http://www.comfortforums.com/forum76/1623.html
It is not difficukt but it talkes 20 to 30 m9nutes, and sometimes due to interuptions you may have to re-do
The keypads will work without voice, ie you can arm and disarm so test everything else first

I've got the UCM connected up, and done a download from the system. I still don't get any sound at all from either of the keypads (no voice or beeping at all), although they can arm and disarm the system (now i've diagnosed the faulty zones and fixed them).

I have connected the closest KP to the main board directly to the mic and voice terminals, and still nothing – is there anything else that would cause no sound at all?

Whats odd is that I used the keypad mechanism to reset the user passwords, but comfigurator isn't accepting the default engineer password?

It looks like the vocabulary is corrupted so do the Vocab Upgrade
If your engineer code does not work, you may have changed it
Use Comfigurator to change the Engineer Code.  User Write User Codes to update the user codes

Is it the vocabulary that makes it beep too? There are no noises at all? I assumed the beeps and things were generated by the keypad itself?

Beeping is not sure to vocabulary  It may be something else.Do system information and check the vocabulary version. If they're is vocabulary it will be nonzero

When the UCM has been in Bus Monitor mode, is there any way to get it out other than a hardware reset (physical button press)? If I telnet to ports 1001 and 1002 its still sending messages, so I assume its all the bus activity? I've tried a reset in ETH03 Configuration program...

Yes you have to press the reset the UCM/ETH03 after you go into Bus Monitor.  Reset of trhe ETh03 from the network will not work

There is a "Halt" button on the bottom left. it may not always work with ETH03.

If the  progress bar does not disappear, repeat the "Start" and "Halt" cycle.
