Hi,

The UCM/Ethernet I purchased in May 2007 reports itself as \"UCM Type 10\" and firmware 5.128.

I\'ve just moved the Eth01 onto a new UCM05.

Looking at the 2 cards they both report as Type 10 and the PCB version is the same.  Apart from missing 9 pin RS232 connector only other difference seems to be the 5 missing switches (dont think these are needed if flashing from Comfigurator) and the U2 NVM chip.  It has the PP1 and PP3 connectors needed for flashing!!.

So $64000 question.  Can I upgrade the firmware on this card to a later UCM version (ie 5.145)?

If not why and can the card be re-workied so that this can be done either by myself or by return.

Would solve my problem of how to flash my UCM05 in the future as both can take the Eth01 module to potentially receive the new UCM flash\'s.

Yes, you can upgrade the firmware on this. It appears that this is an older version of the UCM/Ethernet, it has a Flashable microcontroller. You can upgrade both UCMs to the latest firmware. Your new UCM05 is able to have both a serial and ethernet connection as long as you set the correct positionb of the 232/485 shunt

So just to be clear. 

(1) Eth01 plugged into UCM05 so can program via Comfigurator

(2) Upgrade the old UCM0? from 5.128 to 5.145

(3) Move ethernet back onto upgraded UCM0x

(4) Flash the UCM05 via the upgraded UCM0x** and Comfigurator

** The missing switches and U2 NVM chip wont stop this UCM from flashing the other UCM05? 

Please confirm.

I can see (2) working OK as I\'m using the new UCM05 to do it but a but more nervous about going the other way (4) not knowing what the U2 chip does on the board.

The buttons and U2 EEPROMS are for the Copy/Upload/Download/compare functions which do not interfere with the upgrade. The functions are described in the UCM manual.
Your assumptions are correct
But the latest UCM firmware is UCM5.174, not 5.145
And you can use either the serial interface or Ethernet to upgrade the other UCM

You\'re right about the 5.145 error in my email; of course I know it was for the MPU I just had to many glasses of port last night as I was typing! hock:

Have downloaded UCM firmware 5.174. 

Interestingly enough the website and UCM manual seem to be out of step.  Latest according to the manual is 5.177 (23 Dec) whereas 5.174 on the website is dated 24 Dec but uploaded on 28 Nov.   So you somehow must have invented a time machine!

I have one final question;  is there a way to check UCM version of the card upgraded.  I see in Comfigurator you can always use System Information but this only returns the UCM version for the card that the ethernet module is plugged into.  Asuming there\'s an action code i can use or something.

UCM 5.177 is not released yet
Upcoming Comfort firmware will allow you to find out the type and firmware of any UCM module

Have upgraded both using the above procedure and UCM upgrade docs (cable connections, shunts etc) and all seems to have gone well and both upgraded to 5.174.

Checked both UCM levels via System Information in Comfigurator whilst Eth01 attached respectively to confirm.

It\'s good to hear we\'ll be able to check all firmware levels from one place via a future Comfort firmware upgrade.
