Hi,
I am trying to connect an RFID reader to the UCM Universal.
Not having much look, here is the info for the serial data.
RS232 Data Format (Serial ASCII)
Baud Rate: 9600, N, 8, 1
STX (02 HEX) DATA (10 HEX) CR LF ETX (03 HEX)
The start character is factory defined as an ââ¬ËSTX\' (02 HEX). This is followed
by 10 Hex characters of data. The CR/LF characters serve to bring the
received screen text back to the left hand side and on the line below after
the data bytes have been sent. The ââ¬ËETX\' (03 HEX) character denotes the
end of the current transmission.
Anyone know how the ucm should be configured?
Thanks
Brian

I would be interested to know how you get on with connecting the rfid to your system. This is one of the functions that I want to eventually set up. What rfid unit did you get?
Many thanks.
David
David,
I have one these 125K-R-232-W2 from here
http://rfidshop.com.hk/125V7A.html from a previous project.
Ident,
Tried them settings but not seeing any data in the monitor mode window.

Many thanks for the pointer, I am looking at the site now.
I had a quick look at the manual for your rfid unit and although you have said:
\"STX (02 HEX) DATA (10 HEX) CR LF ETX (03 HEX)\"
the manual says:
\"STX (01 HEX) DATA (10 HEX) CR LF ETX (02 HEX)\"
As this is a new area for me not sure if that will resolve your problem.
Cheers.
David
This is the manual i have read
http://www.rfidshop.com.hk/datasheet/125...232-W2.pdf
Tried it with the other settings and not getting data on the Monitor mode window the only thing noticed is that the D11 led flashes on the ucm when a tag is read.
Tried it on a windows machine with hyperterminal and data is showing ok.
Anyone got any ideas?
Brian
Hi, Brian, your RFID reader protocol is HEX format accurately, try to use date type: HEX in universal UCM setting, if still can\'t receive the data, try to use a inverse 232 cable and try!
Brian
Could you please let me know what pin each of the three wires is connected to on the rs232 connector. I may follow up on this unit and the manual that I read is a bit confusing for me in respect of what goes where. Electronics is not a speciality of mine.
Thanks.
David

Had another look at this last night.
Fired up serial port monitor on my computer and it showed the info that David posted was correct, so i set up the UCM again and still got nothing.
Then decided to reflash the ucm and after that it started working.
Here is the correct info for the reader
http://www.rfidshop.com.hk/datasheet/125...asheet.pdf
There are three wires from the reader.
Red Power 9-12v DC
Black Power ground and RS232 ground pin5
White RS232 TX pin2
Thanks for help
