Hey all... I just had an anomolus event... I made several changes and I didn\'t have any problems until right at the end when I tried to transfer a new program to the panel.today
I: - Added a RIO module, ID=1 (it\'s an old board that I brought back into service)
- Scanned for modules in comfigurator, it found it & established comms
- Upgraded the firmware on a couple of UCM\'s - Eth, and GSM- Added a test response in SCS/RIO response 129 (On response - say a phrase)
- incremented the clock drift tuning setting from 0 to +1 as my clock has been running a bit slow- because I\'d changed a response I then tried to transfer the file to the panel
That\'s when my issue started... the transfer begun, and almost immediately the panel went mad; sirens blaring, keypads showing intruder alert, it armed to night mode. whilst this was going on, I was constantly trying to stop arming by signing in on the keypad, but whenever I stopped a full alarm, it started again after a few seconds.
This continued for the entire duration of the upload - which did complete after the normal amount of time. and once the transfer was complete, and the panel reset, everything went back to normal. I\'ve not repeated a transfer again, since that behavior scared the cat sh**less, and really rather annoyed the family.
I\'ll perform another upload when I get a chance to see if this was a one-off, or if this occurs again.
Any idea why it would behave like that? - could I have overtaxed the PSU in the main panel with the added module? - would that even cause behaviour like this?... any other thoughts? TIA

Hard to tell what could be the problem, It could be with the partial write to Comfort, some items were not complete and pointed to the wrong location
adding a few modules shoud not cause a problmeTry it again with the siren disconnected
Thanks Chiu, I\'ll give that a go later today. Now that I think about it, I wonder if perhaps I am overloading that panels PSU... - I had to move the UCM-Pi out of it to a slave panel last year since the Pi kept rebooting.. it is a fairly well loaded panel, it has the mainboard, a LEM, a DM02, UCM-GSM, UCM-ZWave. It is also supporting a KP06A, 8 PIRs, and a smoke sensor... could the RIO be the straw that broke the camel\'s back? - and if I am overloading it, would the behaviour I described be a possible result?
I\'ll let you know what happens next time I try a transfer later today...

That does sound like you may have overloaded the PSU to me but you have to look at all the component requirements and do the calculations
Thanks Swiss-Toni. I think I may just assume that it is so, and rewire the RIO to a separate local 12V supply.
(doing the consumption calcs is a PITA! :?)
There\'s not really much I can move out of the master panel now, - both those UCM\'s are there because they have radio antennae, and this master panel is best situated for the optimal radio coverage throughout the property, and obviously the DM02 is for the front door which is less than 2m away from the panel.
I assume I can just use a wall-wart 12VDC PSU for the RIO? - no need to tie into the same supply as the rest of the system?... I already have a need for one in the same location anyway, as I also have a mesh wifi disc to power just adjacent. I see the RIO consumption is very modest at 25mA max, with the manual specifying a 500mA PSU, so I think I could probably piggy-back off the Wifi PSU which is 12VDC @ 2000mA...
As long as you dont have any critical things tied into your RIO it should be ok if you do have any critical equipment, then you would need a supply with a battery backup sys on board, link to what may be of use.

It may look like that PSU BU is over the top but it can also be used for 12V lighting/locks ect that need a 12V supply (just food for thought)I find they save on having loads of different PSUs for 12V systems/equipment

I may go for something like that later on. for now I have rummaged in my parts bin & come up with this unit which will allow me to get running with it today. 12VDC @3A and no captive plug which is perfect for me to wire directly into an adjacent fusebox via a flylead and will fit nicely in the box where the RIO is mounted. anyone forsee any issues running this configuration? OK, so here\'s where I ended up... All seems to be OK, the bottom of the BT WiFi disc can just be seen sitting on top of the box, with its steady blue light which indicates good connection. The RIO is talking to comfort OK, the communications error that occurred when I disconnected power from the panel has cleared. The PSU is on a fly lead wired into a fuse panel which is just to left of this box. The 12V output from the PSU is split into 2 with some WAGO 220 connectors (Brilliant things these!). So now this RIO is no longer powered by the main panel, which is back to powering just exactly the same modules as it has been for the last 9 months or so. Next I have to try performing an upload to Comfort & see what happens...
NB, the LED is on (flashing actually) because I hadn\'t yet reconnected KA/KB at the comfort panel end at this point, I have now, and the LED is off.
Also, Chiu, I guess that RIO must be running 2.02 firmware. Obviously this can\'t be upgraded via Comfigurator, but out of interest, _is_ there newer firmware for this module available, and could I upgrade it? - I see no header for a programming cable, so I guess this is only upgradable by a chip swap?...
FYI, I\'m not planning to use any of the outputs, I just needed a way to get some inputs for sensors in a new detatched garage I\'ve just had built. I plan to use a few inputs for PIRs and contact closure sensors for automation of CBUS lights, and detection of door open/close states etc.
Having said that, I *may* possibly use one output to trigger the garage door motor... that would be pretty useful if I could open/close the garage door from Comfort. I\'ll have to wait & see what remote control possibilities exist in the door motor when I finally get round to fitting it...
