For Comfort I, firmware upgrades were by replacement of the U1 IC, which was an (84 pin PLCC) IC in a socket.
For Comfort II, the processor or microcontroller is soldered into the PCB. To upgrade the firmware, a Plug in Module MPU-ULT or MPU_OPT depending on the model is needed. Make sure that the correct firmwaqre upgrade is used  corresponding to the Comfort Moldel, Ultra or Optimum
See the photo above which shows the front and back of this module.

Ensure that the power is off and the Battery disconnected before attempting this, otherwise Comfort and/or the MPU board may be damaged.

The back of the module has 4 rows of headers which plugs in on top of the Comfort Main board to J8, J9, J10, J11 around the U1 IC. Position the 4 rows of headers on the MPU01 directly over the corresponding sockets J8 to J11. The triangle mark on the edge seen on the MPU01 should be aligned with the trangular mark on the Comfort board below. Gently push the MPU01 down until it comes to a firm stop. Examine the connection to ensure that the headers and sockets are properly aligned without any pins sticking out.

Remove two position Shunt J14 in order to enable operation of the MPU01. J14 must be shunted when the onboard U1 is in control and removed when the MPU01 is in control

After checking that everything is in order, turn on the power and connect the battery. Comfort should start up and announce "Security Off" as usual. Remember to set Date and Time.

The programmed settings for the system do not need to be reprogrammed as they are saved in U4 Nonvolatile memory

If the shunt J14 is in the wrong position, the system may not work, or the RESET button may not work
