Problems with the UCM/USB failing to communicate are usually due to the driver being out of date OR the UCM/ID is wrong
If the computer is connected to the Internet when connecting the UCM/USB for the 1st time then the latest driver should be automatically downloaded
When the UCM/USB is connected, a message "New Hardware Found" should appear. If the driver cannot be found then a dialog to install the driver appears
Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" and then click "Next".
Select "Search for the best driver in these locations" and enter the file path in the combo-box ("C:/Program Files/Cytech/Comfigurator/USB Drivers") or browse to it by clicking the browse button. Once the file path has been entered in the box, click next to proceed.
If an existing version of the USB Driver has been installed, this may prevent the UCM/USB from communicating. In this case upgrade the driver by going to (Win7)
My Computer > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Device Manager.
or for Windows XP,
My Computer > Control Panel > System> Hardware Tab > Device Manager.
Do NOT select Ports (COM & LPT) > USB Serial Port for the driver update as this is for the COM port assignment for the USB Port
Instead look for Universal Serial Bus Controller > USB to serial converter.
Double Click to go to Properties
Select Upgrade Driver.
Browse to the folder "C:/Program Files/Cytech/Comfigurator/USBDrivers" and select the folder and then press OK. The new driver will be installed
If this does not work or if Universal Serial Bus Controller is not found then look for Serial Ports (COM and LPT) > USB Serial Port and update the driver in the same way
Also
The UCM ID should be set correctly, ie it should not be the same as any other UCM on the bus. The Number of UCMs in Comfigurator should be the same as the numnber of UCM Ids
Also Make sure that the box "Via KT03" in Connection Settings is not checked, as this is for connection via KT03, and will not work when connected to UCM/USB
