Hi,
This is my first post and need a bit of advice.

I am after installing a new alarm and a friend has said the comfort might be the one to go for as I need home automation and fire alarms too. Although I am looking at the powerMax Pro also.

I am currently having some work done on my house which is good opportunity to get some wiring done so wanted to know what people think before I go ahead.

I have had a look at laser and think I will require the following

CP9000-ULT control panel with enclosure

This will probably be located in the loft. I\'ll just run a phone extension to the enclosure. Is there an issue with with where in the phone circuit of the house the connection is made to the panel?

X-DS01/1-Audio: Profilo Aluminium Audio Door Station Bundle

I don’t want a camera at the door so thought this might be best.

KT03-NF: Comfort Touchscreen Keypad Mark 2 and frame

Do I need to run additional power for this keypad or will it work from the main board? So it will be backed up from the battery?

The UCM\'s I am looking at....

UCM/ETH2

UCM/GSM2

I will need wireless connectivity for PIR\'s etc so which is the best solution to go for? I\'d like to use the Visonic Powermax range as I have used them before and found them to be good. I understand that Zwave also have a range or is there something better

I also want to control lighting and heating and need to know what cabling I need to get pre-installed

Any advice would be greatly received

You should run the incoming phone line into the Comfort enclosure and another pair back to the other phones in the house. This is neccessary so Comfort can cut off the house phones to make a dial out in the event of an alarm.If you connect a telephone extension to Comfort TEL IN, then if any house phone is offhook, it will prevent Comfort from dialing out. Just run 2 sets of telephone wires from the BT Box to Comfort enclosure

Yes that is fine. Note that this is flush mount so the back box  goes into the wall

No need for extra power. It is powered from Comfort and also battery backed up
I also suggest an extra Keypad eg KP04, KP05 or KP06 for convenience if your house has more than 1 level. Touchscreens are nice and can control may things, however a normal keypad is easier for arming and disarmng, ie you dont have to navigate to the keypad page

UCM/ETH02 is a good choice as it allows you to program comfort as well as control by iPad, iPhone or android

UCM/GSM3 is the current GSM interface model

Visonic and Risco are two companies that have wireless sensors which work with wireless receivers with hardwire outputs to connect to Comfort Inputs

Zwave has wireless sensors but unless you are using Zwave for control as well, the specialised security products are preferred.

It depends on what lighting system you are planning to use
Comfort supports CBus, KNX, Z-Wave, Carlo Gavazzi Smarthouse, Velbus by dedicated UCMs and other systems by the Universal UCM
The wiring depends on the system that you select, some are bus and  Z-wave is wireless

PowerMax is an excellent  wireless alarm system if you just need an alarm system, and you want to use X10 for control. If you are looking for  real programmable automation controller with logic, time programs with sunrise/sunset times, daylight saving adjustment, control by smart phone and tablet apps, and is upgradable and expandable, then I think Comfort is a better choice.

Thank you for your replies. They have been most helpful.

I am still a bit unsure about the Comfort being the first device on the phone line, as the ADSL line is going to be coming through there and it is my understanding that the closer to the entry point the ADSL is situated the more bandwidth is likely to be available.

So my questions are:

1. Is it only the phone(s) that are connected prior to the comfort that can disable the doorbell notification via the phone if they are off the hook? and is that the only situation in which it would disable the phone line.

2. If I install the GSM module and the land line is deemed as engaged, would it then notify me to my mobile phone?

I forgot to mention that the ADSL modem can be placed before or in parallel to Comfort. This does not \"use\" the phone so it will not affect the Dial out

If the landline is used, a GSM Module will dial out by GSM as a backup

Is there any recommendation for fire/smoke alarms? as there seem to be a fare few available.
