No reponse from UCM
#1
I am having a problem with a new UCM05eth. It is connected to a new Gen II main PCB. Config is as follows:

PC and UCM are connected to 2 ethernet ports on ADSL router.  PC has Internet connectivity via the router. I can Buzz UCM from DS Manager. I can ping UCM from PC.

D1 and D102 LEDs on all the time, D103 blinks twice every few seconds.

SW8 has A,B and F inserted, H can be in or out (with appropriate setting of RTSCTS Flow control DS Manager) Makes no difference.

J2 set to 485

JP2 connected to Main PCB (RS485 connector)

D10 LED is on all the time regardless of whether Comfigurator is running or not.

Firewall is disabled or if it is not ports 1001 and 65535 are opened and Comfigurator and Wizcomfort are in the exceptions list.

D103 LED lights up after Comfigurator requests User sign-in. But error message \"No response from UCM\" is displayed.

IP Address of PC is  192.168.1.2 Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and Default Gateway is 192.168.1.254.

ADSL router has the following settings. Local Network IP Address is 192.168.1.254. IP address is 86.45.3.108 IP gateway IP address is 159.134.155.6

UCM IP address is 192.168.1.2 Gateway IP address can be set to that of PC, router, Default Gateway or IP gateway addresses but still the same problem.

Have tried Hyperterminal configured for IP and get no response and from Wiz comfort I get a \"no reponse from controller from |||CMD LI6789|\".

HELP, Thanks Andrew

Could it be that you have not defined the number of UCMs to 2 in Comfigurator (let say you have 2 UCMs)? Also make sure UCM/Ethernet ID is set as 2 (SW7 shunt A open; B and C are closed).

D9 and D10 LEDs on UCM/Ethernet should both be flashing to indicate communication between UCM and main board. Otherwise you will get \"No response from UCM\" message.

Hi,  I also notice that your UCM and PC have the same IP address.  If that is correct then that could be your problem.  The UCM needs to have its own unique IP addess (say 192.168.1.3)

Cheers.

Apologies, this was my typing error. The IP address of the UCM is 192.168.1.3

I have only one UCM and have not changed the default settings in this respect. I have set the ID to be one or two and it does not make a difference. Does the ID of the UCM05 have to be 2 or can it be any number? Thanks.

A comfort system can support up to 8 different UCMs. By convention UCM ID 1 (SW7 shunt A, B and C are all closed) is reserved for downloading/uploading purpose and there is no communication failure reported for UCM ID 1 only. Starting from UCM ID 2, any communication failure will be reported. From what I understand you have UCM05 for downloading/uploading? This should be set to ID1 and any additional UCM should start from ID 2, in this case your UCM/Ethernet.

Did you download the change of 2 number of UCMs into the mainboard using Comfigurator? This change requires system reset; if you do full download: Transfer > Download (PC--> Comfort) it will automatically reset the system at the end of downloading. If you do selective download, you need to reset the system after downloading by Transfer > Reset System.

Assuming you only have the one UCM on ID=1 the settings of Number of UCMs=1 and ID of 1 will work fine
However you say the D10 is on (actually flashing very fast) showing that the communications from Comfort is being received
However you did not say if the red D9 LED also flashes - if it remains off that means the UCM is not replying to Comfort Polls which means the UCM will not communicate. You must check that the number of UCMs in Comfigurator matches the number of UCMs that you actuallly have connected

The other thing to check is the DS Manager settings for Baud Rate, Protocol (TCP), routing mode etc. The UCM Manual was recently revised (3.3.7) to show these setup screens in detail. Please download this from www.cytech.biz/manuals.html

It is best to disable Flow control on bith the UCM and DS Manager

I have one UCM with an ethernet interface and it is set to ID 2. The D9, D11 or D12 LEDs do not light on powerup or at any stage during operation.

If the UCM is set to an ID of 2, then it appears that you have not changed the Number of UCMs in Comfigurator > Modules and Settings to 2, and reset the system
If D9 is not flashing rapidly it means the UCM is not being addressed and thus is not replying
Once you fix this, everything should work

Gentlemen,

You are invited to Dublin for a Guinness, on me. Many thanks the problem was that the number of UCM\'s was set to zero! When I changed it to one and set the UCM ID to one it worked perfectly. Many Thanks

Andrew
