How to Control RS232 devices from ComfortClient.
#1
ComfortClient doesn\'t support the UCM/232 to connect to Comfort, it\'s Ethernet only. It does however support the UCM/232 to send custom commands to third-party devices like a Video Matrix Switcher.

Unfortunately the UCM/232 native command interface, as can be seen in Comfigurator Response Editor, has not been implemented yet but the actual commands does work.

Let\'s take an example of an Autopatch Half-Y Matrix Switcher. The command to switch Input 1 to Output 1 is as follows: CL1I1O1T. When this is entered in Comfigurator as a \'Send RS232\' command you get the following raw data stream: 197,19,32,67,76,49,73,49,79,49,84,255, 255

This command is then sent to the UCM ID#3 and the appropriate action on the Matrix Switcher is activated. To have the Client do the same action you need to open the Object Properties and select the \'Click Response\'. From the Click Response Type dropdown you need to select \'Custom\' to get access to the Custom Action Codes section. Here you can paste the above string and the action will be executed every time you click on the object.

As we all know, the UCM/232 only does one-way communication and you need a UCM/Universal to do two-way communication. This new UCM has not been released yet and there is currently no support in ComfortClient for the return traffic.

Regards,
Ingo
