Comfort dropping call when answered
#1
I\'m doing a system check and noticed that when Comfort was dialling from my door station to my mobile - I would receive the call but as soon as I answered it, the call was dropped. I tried the dial test and this did the same. I talked into the phone but did not get \"dial test\" spoken response. If I don\'t pick it up it still drops the call. It used to keep going until my mobile voice mail answered. We have had a VOIP system for over 10 years and this is the first time I have had a problem.
I can call my mobile from the house phone and connect successfully. So signal is adequate and VOIP are working.I can access Comfort\'s menu from both the house phone and remotely via my mobile, so the phone module is working. It is dialling out and reaching its destination but appears to be dropping after a 2-3 seconds.
Any thoughts what mught be causing this ? Is there a tweak in the tuning parameters ?

Do you know when this started to happen? Have you had phone calls from Comfort recently? Did you upgrade firmware recently? There is no tuning parametyer taht can cause the call to be dropped. Here we have stopped using landlines for some time, so outgoing calls are done by GSM, Dialouts by GSM are fine but we are unable to test dialoiut by landline (or VOIP). Perhaps one of the components in the dialout circuit may have been damaged eg by Lightning?

I\'m not sure when this started. I don\'t often get dialouts from my system and it was only noticed as part of my recent system audit. We also don\'t often get lightening storms here and the system is now isolated from telephone copper wire by the VOIP which is all fibre and has been for over 10 years.

I have not done a firmware update for at least 5 years and perhaps that would help if there is an update from v7.116.

To clarify, it actually isn\'t dropping the line on answering, it drops even if not answered after 3-4 secs. Usually too quick to answer. I\'m sure before it would ring out at least until my mobile voicemail picked up the call.

So, the question is, what dictates how long Comfort calls a number unanswered before dropping the line? It potentially could be serially calling 8 numbers which, at a minute each, would be 8 minutes before re-trying the first.

In my case it is only calling 1 number. There is a setting for \"seconds to re-try\" which I adjusted from 180 to 120. Wondered if this had messed up the setting. And I guess a board fault is always a possibility.

Comfort waits for a fixed time if the call is not answred before it hangs up. This parameter is fixed and cannot be changed. It should be at least 30 seconds. If it detects that the call has been dropped by the called party then it would hang up. Perhaps it detected a busy tone when it dialed out, as that would cause it to hang up immediately. What is the ringback tone on the telephone line, is it like a busy tone, ie short duration tones eg beep beep beep...

Just checked my mobile gives the usual UK \"Brrring Brrring\" tone, not \"beep beep\" or engaged. Certainly doesn\'t ring for 30 seconds.

I see there are a few firmware upgrades since 7.116. I\'ll try an update to 7.200 and if that doesn\'t solve it, have to consider replacing the board.Sad

Which half has the phone hardware on it ?

The right side with the power supply and keypad mic and voice connection

To close this matter, I updated to the latest firmware (Controller, UCM and SEM) and the phone dialout seems better but not completely right. Sometimes dials long enough to pick up, sometimes not. The board is 13 years old and I know on computer MBs the electrolytic capacitors often fail and limit life.

If I have to replace half a board I might as well replace the entire board with one of the new versions. I\'ll have to check which other parts of the system (SEP1, UCM, LEM01, keypads, doorphone) would need updating.

Thanks for the help Chiu.

Good decision! Please check the compatibility here http://www.comfortforums.com/forum16/1470.html

That compatibility check is for Comfort I to Comfort II.
Since I already have a a Comfort II CP9000-ULT system, the CM9001 should be effectively compatible with everything on the existing system, including the mounting ?

The switched PSU means I would remove the transformer from the modified Comfort I enclosure and gain some space.

Yes, except the LEMs should be matched to the correct versions ie LEM01B, LEM03B, LEM02B with CM9001 and SEM01C. The mounting holes are the same

Correct, the new power supply is much lighter and smaller. However there is no mounting holes on the old enclosure but it should not be difficult to mount it, eg double sided tape
