Remote RIO installation problem

Hi

Until today I had two RIOs sited in a separate site from my main (comfort II) system. They worked fine. Connection to comfort is by twisted pair (KA/KB) with link to comfort 0v and a local Elmdene 12 power supply.

Today I have tried to add a 3rd RIO but every time I connect it into the system (and re-programme via comfigurator so the system knows I have three RIOs) I get a communications error 81 then 82 then 83. If I take the unit out again and drop the number of RIOs listed in comfigurator to 2, then all is well again. I am confident I am not making a mistake with the jumper settings.

Is there a limit to the number of RIOs that can be daisy-chained together in a remote location like this? Distance from main comfort is only about 20m. If not, can anyone suggest a likely cause/cure for the problem?

Can you set the 3rd RIO ID as 2 and connect it in place of the 2nd one, leaving the number of RIOs as 2? It could be a faulty RIO which is pulling down the communications bus
RIOs can go up to 15 for Ultra II

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried connecting the 3rd RIO direct to comfort (via UCM) and it worked fine there, so I figured it had to be to do with the remote installation.

Eventually I found that by loosening the screws holding the RIO in place in the metal Unibox enclosure, the problem went away. The screw holes in the box were very slightly off \'centre\' and I guess when I screwed in the pillars to hold the RIO in place (I was using pillars so I could mount another RIO on top) this slightly bent the board, somehow causing the problem. It is all working fine now, except the board is not as securely fixed in the enclosure as I would have liked.

Glad the problem was solved.  Perhaps You can feedback to the manufacturer of the box about the holes offset problem
