The principle in such cases where there is a VoIP or special telephone line is; As long as you can use a normal telephone you can connect Comfort to the telephone. This should be the case. In your case if you are using a normal telephone, and not a special one provided by the service and you can hear a dial tone and make a call then that line has line voltage, provides a dial tone, accepts DTMF tones, hence should be able to work with Comfort.
As before you should connect all home telephones to TEL OUT of Comfort

I\'m intending to do something similar - I have a SIP-based PBX at home and want to connect Comfort to it via an ATA (analog telephone adaptor).

In my case there is therefore no distinction between TEL-IN and TEL-OUT, there\'s only a single connection to the PBX which then, depending on the number dialed, rings either an internal extension or an outside line. There will also be a doorstation and an internal station connected to Comfort and I\'d like to be able to get the doorstation to ring a PBX extension.

I\'m not sure how to achieve this with Comfort however........suggestions welcome

Thats a tricky one.
The Door station rings the telephone by supplying a ring voltage (about 80VRMS) to TEL OUT. This would not work in yoour case unless you connect a telephone to TEL OUT

You would have to get the door station to always dial a number like it does in Away Mode. This can be doen by using the Action \"Force Door Station Dial out\" in a Response assigned to the Doorbell Response (in Misc Events)

Program the extension number or numbers in the telephone numbers and set the doorbell Alarm Type to dial to the programed numbers

So which of the 2 Comfort telephone connections would I use for the SIP ATA? TEL IN or TEL OUT?

Also would I need a RGR03/RGR04 ringer module for this to work?

With the doorbell set to dial programmed numbers would this then mean that keypads could no longer be used with the intercom as well? And what about the ability to ring in (via SIP ATA) to listen to doorphone & keypads?

As a side question: is there a simple document showing differences between Gen1 and Gen2 Comfort? I used to have a Gen1 in a previous house a few years ago and am about to buy Comfort for the current house and am a bit confused about which to go for.

You would connect the ATA to TEL IN, not TEL OUT. The Ringer would not be needed as the system would be dialing a telephone number and not ringing an internal phone. However the keypads would not chime as you have pointed out

Unfortunately you have to make a choice between answering the phone on the keypad or another local phone connected to TEL OUT or getting Comfort to dial to an extension and answering the call on the extension phones (force dial out)

However I think in the first option you could still go to the keypad to talk to the visitor although you will not hear the chime

As for the decision whether to buy Comfort I or II, this is no longer an option as Comfort I has been out of production for 3 years. There is a dealer who is selling old stock, see the warning on the forum
http://www.comfortforums.com/forum56/1082.html

These parts are not under warranty and upgrades are not available. The said dealer has been telling people that Comfort II is not stable. The truth is that he is not able to purchase Comfort II from Cytech as he is no longer an authorised distributor
Please check our website https://www.cytech.biz/cytcms/dealers.php#UK for a list of UK dstributors. I strongly advise everyone not to buy any obsolete products from this dealer. Comfort II is stable, reliable and well supported. Firmware upgrades are free and upgrades can be done using the UCM05

There is a document Introduction to Comfort II which tells the diifferences between Comfort I and II, see
