Heatmiser Installlation advice?

... I have a heatmiser wifi thermostat for the boiler control, just waiting for either a control 4 interface in to comfort (would buy a control 4 system then) or cytech UCM to control this. However, it sort of takes care of itself.

I have ordered 3 z-wave trv\'s as I can get comfort to up the temp if the PIR detects someone in room.

Heatmiser - you need a 240v supply to the thermostate and I ended up installing a relay near the receiver.

Happy to forward the instructions I have for the relay install which heatmiser sent, but did not include in the installation instructions. I would suggest installing before it gets too cold as my heating was down for a couple of days.

I have British Gas coming out to spec/quote replacing my Smartfit controls on Monday. Apparently they can do Heatmiser installs?!? Thought I should ask them first as have boiler servicing with them.

I must admit to being quite confused about how best to deploy Heatmiser. I spoke to Heatmiser support today though for advice and they are suggesting I should use a PRTHW-TSWIFI-RF thermostat (in hall) and an RC1-W in the airing cupboard where my current Smartfit/Boiler cables feed back too.

This means I\'ll need the UCM/HM-Eth interface to connect up to Comfort.

Can you see any problems in this? My current Smartfit Thermostat is already 230v so apart from recessing a backbox then it should replace ok.

I purchased the PRT/HW -TS WiFi RF Kit about £180 can\'t remember if that was inc vat. This can control water and heating.

I put the RC1-W and the relay in the airing cupboard where my wiring centre is, so your spot on there.

Configured the thermostat to work on the wifi by connecting to my laptop.

Connected the thermostat to 240v needed to chop in new back box.

Then paired the RC1-W and the thermostat.

I had an electrician connect to the wiring centre, but found he lacked confidence in this type of tech, even though he connects boilers up in his sleep. He could not get it to work initially so I contacted Heatmiser... they sent out a new wiring diagram which included a relay.

I connected everything up with electrician and it worked fine.

Correct... I had been without the boiler for a few days. On the day I got the info from Heatmiser I reserved what I thought was the relay and when I got there it was the socket...fortunately they had the relay in stock as well..

Do you have a static IP? I don\'t and inorder to get things to work correctly I use No-ip which has a client that runs on a PC and updates any IP changes forced by ISP

Therefore, when setting up heatmiser, comfort or anything else for that matter from Internet to home becomes very easy.

The problem is you need a PC on all the time and unless you pay $29 I think the host name gets deleted after a month and needs setting up again.... Bit of a pain so I paid the bill to be honest.

I am OK as I run a small atom based web server 24x7 (takes about 28 watts to run). One thing if I hadn\'t done this way would have been to use a dynamic dns client on a on a raspberry pi. This could run 24x7 on pence per annum or a few batteries and keep IP address updated.

While browsing about the UCM/Zwave to augment or replace my current UCM/Ulti I came across this. I didn\'t know about the UCM/Heatmiser but am very interested indeed. I had a quick look on Laser.com and they don\'t list it yet. Is it readily available yet or coming soon? I\'ve just upgraded to Comfigurator 3.7.6.0 as it happens.

Like Julian above I have my boiler serviced by British Gas so was going to be asking them about some options. But I read somewhere else that their visit to him lasted all of 30 seconds or something!

I\'m trying to wrap my head around the possibility here.

Does the Comfort UCM/Heatmiser talk to the Heatmiser PRTHW-TS thermostat, and the RC1-W interfaces with my boiler? Or does Comfort control the boiler directly through the RC1-W based on programmed logic from thermostat sensors?

The RC1-W has 2 \'zones\' which I take to mean the central heating and hot water modes on my boiler. This seems related to lwillerton\'s comment that, \"it sort of takes care of itself.\"

So I\'ll need a UCM/Heatmiser which requires a plugin interface such as an ETH0x, but there\'s a future possibility of a WiFi interface too? As it happens I have a spare ETH01 lying around following an upgrade to an ETH02 so that sounds like it might have a use at last.

Hey Stub,

I have my installation happening on the 21st of this month (Nov), ripping out my old Y-plan Smartfit (and UCM/Smartfit)low voltage controls and replacing with a Heatmiser WIFI thermostat (PRTHW-TS-WIFI_RF)and RC1-W combo. My valves are being changed to a Honeywell S-Plan 230v setup too. I\'m waiting on my UCM/HM Eth from Cytech and hopefully it\'ll all come together shortly after the 21st.

I\'ll let you know how it goes.

Yes it was me that tried and failed with British gas; all they wanted to do was push their systems and weren\'t interested in the fact I\'d already chosen a solution. I told the engineer to leave as the conversation was over!

Fortunately I\'ve found a local heating company that are happy to do the work and I\'ve already had them come out, survey and quote in readiness.

Thanks for that, Julian. I\'m very, very interested in how you get on so I can understand how to hook-up Heatmiser with Comfort. Sounds like I\'ll have to find a local heating company too though I may be looking at a new boiler and water tank and I don\'t have the faintest idea yet how this all integrates. Exciting though.

Hi all,

Just having my Heatmiser fitted this week to replace my old Smartfit system.

One thing I didn\'t spot during my research into a replacement; the system doesn\'t report the water temperature like it does on my old Smartfit unit.

So how do you know the water temperature and when you need to turn on the heating to warm the water?
