UCM/GSM4 problem with new SIM
#1
Hi,

After solving my ETH03 issues I\'m now testing my new UCM/GSM4.  I have a new SIM from idMobile which runs on the UK\'s \"Three\" network (standard pay-monthly voice & data 3G & 4G SIM).  I keep getting the Busy1 and Busy2 lights lit though which implies there is a SIM error. After scratching my head and looking around the forum I gather that you still sell the two versions of the UCM/GSM4 and renamed them (2G) and (3G).  The UK supplier didn\'t tell me that, they only advertise a GSM4 and I assumed that only the 3G version was sold now. I\'ve checked and the invoice also just says \"UCM/GSM4\" as does the little label on the Cytech box (it just has the \"4\" written in pen).

Can anyone confirm which module I have from the photograph?  I really hope they haven\'t sent me the wrong one. I think the Three network only supports 3G and 4G.

If that is a 3G module - any suggestions on what might be wrong? I haven\'t been able to test the SIM in a standard phone as all my phones take smaller SIMs.

Thanks

What you have is a 2G model which will not work with Three

UCM/GSM4 was based on 2G GSM network, so if there is no (3G) suffix the product supports 2G

The 3G version was only released this year in 2017, called UCM/GSM4 (3G), which is sold at a higher price
The 2G model was renamed UCM/GSM4(2G)

Hence existing stock of UCM/GSM4 would be the 2G model

I suggest that you either use a SIM card that supports 2G  which includes most networks on the UK, or return the module and pay the difference for the 3G model

Our apologies for the confusion

Oh, ok. That\'s annoying.

With them only listing one I assumed it would be the latest model, not old stock.

I\'m sure they said they had no stock though and ordered it direct from you though as they said it would take a few weeks to arrive.

If I have to send back is it possible to swap just the daughterboard, or do I have to return the whole thing?

I hope you can understand that it is not a matter of Old stock being 2G and new stock being 3G.

3G is not replacing 2G. Both are current models. We are selling 3G and 2G.

You should be able to swap the daugtherboards and pay the difference

Ok. I guess they don\'t advertise the newer one then. I will contact them and see what I need to do to get it upgraded to the 3G model. Thanks again for your help.
