Control of Velux windows

Hi,

I\'m just trying to get to grips with controlling my Velux windows through Comfort and was wondering if anyone had successfully controlled these using the IR learner. 

I\'ve got the old style Velux IR controls and 3 way motor controller, which has embedded security through an internal DIP switch, but once set I would expect to be able to learn the IR via my UCM.  However having had a quick bash at it, it doesn\'t work when added to a Response.  It\'s the first time I\'ve used IR so it could be something I\'m doing wrong, but I\'d appreciate any tips if anyone has done this - do I have to adjust the tolerances maybe for the added security detail in the IR message?

Ultimately I plan to control via CBUS Saturns, and think I have the logic worked out, but again any tips gretfully received.

Sorry about missing your question
Did you manage to learn the signal successfully via the IR learner? Did you see a \"reasonable\" looking IR signal when captured?

If so then check that your response is correct. When you turn on the Monitor I/O in Comfigurator, you should see the message
< IRNNRR
where NN is the Output number in hexadecimal code and RR is the IR Number in hexadecimal code

eg IR1002 means IR code 2 was sent from Output 16

This shows that the action was correct and sent the IR code to the output
If you see the correct info here, perhaps the IR signal was not encoded or learned correctly

You can try learning again or learn other buttons on the Remote control

Make sure that you are using the IR transmitter IR01W or IRM01 connected to an output, and that the polarity of the IR connectrion and wires is correct
Also the distance and angle of the IR led to the receiver is important

A good way to find out if any IR signal is coming from the IR transmitter is to use your mobile phone in camera mode. This can usually be used to see the IR signal as a white flashing signal

Thanks for your reply.  I\'m currently remote from my system so cannot test everything but will next time I\'m at the house (about 3 weeks)

Yes there was a reasonable looking signal - I recorded about 9 different signals and they all looked different.  There was some variation in size. I\'ve attached a sample if that means anything to you!

I\'m using an IR01W connected to a RIO, but at the moment have no way to check that either the connections or the signal are OK. May also try leaning something \"simpler\" like a TV remote!

If you are using IR01W, please note that the IR range of this is quite small, as it is meant to be mounted near to the receiver. You should use IRM01 (the one with a PC Board) if you need a longer range. Try extending the wires to the IR01 so that it is about 1 m from the receiver.

Also try using new batteries on the remote control

Are you using UCM05 or the old UCM01/IR If the latter then in the ADD NEW FUNCTION page there is a checkbox for OLD UCM01 that shouyld be checked

I had the device about 10-15cm from the IR01W, so should be within range.

For the learning I\'m using the newer UCM05 (Ethernet) in RS232 mode - firmware v5.164

I\'ll have to do some more tests next time I\'m able to.

Well, just thought I\'d give an update on this to say that I\'ve got them working OK - the problem was reversed polarity on the IR01W.  This means that Comfort is able to control with the embedded security that Velux have in their IR protocol, and it means you can control multiple windows from one Comfort Output - the \"proper\" way to do this is with their interface device which I think would tie up multiple outputs.

Glad to see you got it sorted out. IR Learning with the UCM05 and IR transmission with Comfort is now quite reliable, and should be used more often

I was using a new UCM Ethernet with the daughterboard removed and switched back to RS232 - a useful feature that I saw on the Cytech website but not in the documentation. 

Can you learn IR over Ethernet?

Yes, you can use the new Virtual Serial Port Software from http://www.cytech-technology.com/temp/so...00-x86.zip

This is a serial to Etherner converter software which maps the Ethenet port to a COM port (hence a virtual serial port)

It is also not documented yet
