Dynamic CBUS control from Comfort
#1
Now that the CBUS protocol docs have been published, would Cytech look to add some extra functionality to the CBUS UCM ?

Specifically, look at dynamically altering the group assignment of a CBUS switch (ie DLT). With this, we could have a different set of CBUS buttons in different modes (ie Night Mode). or even in Away mode, disable all CBUS buttons so if they are intruders, they cannot control anything in the house (and have lights come on automatically).

Also, be able to reasign the label to a DLT switch. Here, we could display Comfort information on a DLT on a specific group - such as Alarm status, temperature values, timer values (showing the timer countdown - very useful), and lots of other things.

Anyone else got any ideas of how we could expand this ?

Details for the Lighting application are here - http://training.clipsal.com/downloads/Op...tocol.html

Also being able to control showing the date as well as the time would be useful

We have had the Protocol available to us for many years, but as far as I know that tells you how to communicate with C-Bus, and not how to program it, which is what you are suggesting. You can study these documents and tell me if you can find any information which we may have missed. I have put the question to Clipsal, will keep you informed

It appears from posts on the Cbus forum that labelling of a group address is possible, although programming of the group address is not supported.
Hence it is possible to change the label on a DLT depending on say night time and program the Counter Response corresponding to the group address to do whatevey you want eg arm to Night mode, arm to day mode or whatever
Comfort is able to send any C-Bus command but we need to look into the specific commands needed (and we need to get hold of a DLT) so it should be able to do this with current firmware
Those who would like to test this for themselves can read the appropriate sections of the Lighting Application document Regarding labels, the Lighting Application protocol docs section
2.4.2 lists the languages, 2.5 covers the commands, 2.5.2 specifically being the label command, 2.6.5 describes the various command attributes in more detail.

We are looking at the possible function of relabelling DLT switches from Comfort, and would like some feedback on how it would be useful. I suppose displaying comfort parameters on DLT would be useful, but what is the advantage of dynamically changing the labels instead of having fixed labels on the switch programmed by the Cbus toolkit?

Excellent :-)

When you say relabel, or you just changing the displayed text, or remapping a group ID (not reprogramming it). That is, there are 2x4 buttons, and each button maps to a CBUS ID. Having the ability to disable all light controls in Away mode would be good - so set all buttons to a CBUS ID that does nothing. Any intruder would find it hard to override any systems.

If it\'s just text, then display Comfort information would be useful - ie temp sensors, comfort timers, flag status\', etc

Changing the group address of a button is not possible, and that has been confirmed by Clipsal. The functionality that you mention is disabling the function of the button can be done in Comfort, eg When Security Mode is Away then do nothing

Changing the text on the DLT (or touchscreen) is possible, to display temperature, values, and any text at all.
