Board damage due to lightning
#1
My Comfort II system installed beginning of last year. In Dec 08, the system was not working, and the supplier told me that the board was damage due to power surge as a result of lightning. The board was repaired and quite a few pairs of contact point at the windows and doors had to be changed.

This week, the system is giving problem again as there is no voice report. The supplier came today and had advise that the board is damaged again , probably due to lightning.

Can you please advise if this is possible as the last time it happended was only 6 months ago. It is very costly to repair the board and had to change the contact poitns again in such a short period.

Thank you.

Lightning damage is difficult to control even though Comfort has designed in many protection devices to protect against lightning induced surges. A direct or near direct lightning strike is impossible to protect against.
The fact that the magnetic contacts on the windows are damaged indicates that this was a very close lightning strike. Magnetic contacts and security sensors are not supplied by Cytech but by other manufacturers.
Some areas are more prone to lightning in Singapore especially those on hills and higher areas.  There is a Telephone protection board (TPB) which can be installed on the Telephone IN of Comfort to help protect against lightning which should be installed in lightning prone areas.
Send me a private message or email to support@cytech.biz.  We will let you have a free TPB when your board is returned and I will personally look into your case.
