X10 Wall Dimmer

Hi,

I installed an LW10U and initially it seemed to work ok, but then stopped and refused to respond to any commands.

Now it seems to be partially working;  I can switch it off ok but I cant switch it on.  The return status I get (with Wizcomfort for example) is OK in both cases.

Can noise be a problem if switch off works ok or should I suspect the switch itself.  I'll have to buy a new one to test this theory.

It seems realatively easy to move a plug in X10 module around the different sockets on the house ring main but for lighting circuits there doesnt seem much you can do to test for noise problems?

Any ideas appreciated.

This type of problem is unfortunately not uncommon in X10
I would suspect a noise interferennce problem. Try switching off or unplugging other appliances. Are there any fluorescent lights, sometimes theycan cause interference.
You may want to try the A10 modules, I think they are soold in the UK and are supposed to be more immune to noise

I finally solved my this problem this week.

By process of elimination I found that my main PC in the same room as the switch was the cause.  It wasn\'t the monitor, hub, print server or anything else plugged into the surge protected extension lead but the base unit itself.

I have 3 other PC\'s in the house in different rooms that the kids use and none of these affect the x10 switch;  just my PC base unit.

The annoying thing is that this is the most expensive of the PC\'s I have with the latest technology including modular power supply etc.

It worries me how the PC on the ring main can affect the lights on the lighting circuit.  Strangely enough the x10 appliance modules on the ring main are unnaffected.

Anyway I\'ve stuck an x10 filter on it and I\'m back fully working again.

I still want to find out why the PC is creating so much conductive RFI but methinks this is going to be a painful task of swapping out components until the problem goes away.  So much for the £80 modular PC power supply!

Anyway,  just in case it helps anyone else in their troubleshooting.

Good work in identifying the cause.
Perhaps the PC being an expensive model had better surge protection on its mains input. This could have an effect on X10 signals
