Metal Doorstation Option

We are looking at a new outdoor  door station. This will provide an alternative to those who need a high quality weatherproof outdoor station. It has an optional camera module which can be connected to the TV or monitor. It comes with a backbox suitable for flush mounting or a Surface mounting enclsoure
Performance for two way voice intercom is better than with the DP03 due to better accoustic isolation.
This will be used with the DM02 Door station Interface.

We have done a couple of designs for metal door stations and keypads and surrounds for the touch screen.

I am in the process of trialing the prototypes ( the screens on the keypads are flat and the volume control is thus only accessible via a screw driver) watch this space.

Granted it is not the most sexy option but after finding this we spent some time intergrating it in to comfort. And now have this working in a few locations. With Andy selling it as a kit. The main advantage is that it is small enough to fit on the door frame. The case is cast metal so very durable and even at this size there is enough space for colour camera.

Due to its size I guess there is no way to house the comfort PCBs in there so there would have to be a separate PCB somewhere. In this case it is the DM01 mounted in comfort.

As an aside I think it is becomming increasingly important that customer facing comfort components start to share a common look and elude quality. Adopting third party products is a real good way of brining on board tried and tested technologies but it should not be done at the expense of asthetics.

We are .... The volume control has always been the issue. I have been looking out for the ones that were on old car stereos. I had a Sharp deck and the Balance and tone controls were pushbutton. Push once and out popped the adjustment knob. Push again to hide it again when finished with.

It looks good enough for me, but I am hardly a good judge of appearance

If we use third party products it is difficult to maintain a consistent outlook, eg between this and KT01, Companion etc.

Have you tested the accoustic isolation for the Intercom, ie how well are the mic and speaker separated?


We are moving towards a Door station DP03 option where the DM01 is used and the audio is brought to to external door station. This would be more secure as the communications remains in the house and is not prone to lightning damage

Well funnily enough I have posted elsewhere about this looking for help. My first implementation of this was using C1 and a modified doorstation. This worked perfectly in everyway.

Internally the mic is mounted in a rubber sleeve and pressed in to a tube cast in to the metal bodywork. This is then backfiled with wax. The speaker is mounted directly to the metal but audio can travel in both directions, ie in to the case. The metal work is very substantial and solid.

Then I upgraded to C2 and it seemd fine until I was called by Comfort by a caller at the door. The quality over the mobile was unusable. A long time passed and then we suffered a storm and lost the Doorstation. So your thoughts over using a DM01 to separate the comms is justified.

I have now upgraded to a DM01 and the speech using the house phone is perfectly clear. However I cannot get any usable audio via a mobile phone. Now comes the problem setting up the audio. I now have 2 pots on the DM01, 1 on Comfort and sliders within Configurator. I know what the pots do but I don\'t fully understand the sliders in comfigurator.

For note, for the next version of the DM01 it would be more flexible if the bell input could be configured for AC/DC as it is now plus positive or negative edge triggered.

If you wish to follow up the technical side of this maybe that should be kept in the original post. However I will happliy conduct any tests that you want to help validate or dismiss it as an option.

As for the looks many people probably are not to worried but I know that my clients are. This covers the style of the accessories as well as things like the voice and the doorbell sounds etc. We want a quality feel that matches the installed costs of these systems. Standard alarm plastics and styles do not cut it.
