UCM Error LED on

I have the Red error led on D4 continually lit on a new GSM UCM 7,xxx, together with D2,D3 and the Rdy led
All lit, when I press the reset they go off then back on straight away , and will not show up in configurator
Is this a major, and return to base or can a super reset be achieved

It could be that the firmware is corrupted.

Try upgrading the UCM/GSM firmware, see:

I have just installed the new GSM4 after GSM2 failed with the same lights on. Im now wondering if i have just wasted money buying GSM4! Did you manage to resolve your problem and how did you do it. I have done the suggested upgrading the firmware to no avail.

What sort of SIM Card did you use? Check that it is not a 3G only type like \"3\", and it is able to send SMS
The SIM Card must not be password protected

Use the Latest Comfigurator (3.8.10) and go to the GSM Module screen as shown below




In the status bar on the bottom left, you should see the current status, eg Normal/No Error if all is well

If there is an error you should be able to see the cause of the error eg

I Have always used a T-Mobile sim which has previously always worked, tested in phone and is operating normaly. I tried reinstalling firmware with cable and it made no difference. In the I/O Monitor it does not show anything about the GSM (get status) is greyed out.

The status bar is actually not grayed out. It looks like the comfigurator window is positioned too low on the screen so the bottom line is  blocked by the windows 7 taskbar which has the effect of blurring the hidden area

Move the comfigurator window higher or expand to full screen to see the status bar and the status field


From the photo BUSY1 and BUSY2 are both on. This should mean that the SIM Card is not detected. Hence your reported status should show \"No SIM Card\"

If the SIM Card was working before and you have changed the GSM Module, it could be that the SIM Card contacts are dirty and cannot make contact

Another reason could be the SIM is prepaid and has expired?

Resolved the problem, the sim card was not dirty however it was oxidized, using some brass polish on the sim and then reinserting it, all functions came back. although i had cleaned it previously it, wiping it with a cloth even a damp will not remove oxidization. I am now going to connect up my old gsm, if it was the card then the old gsm will work (an expensive learn)

You didnt just buy a replacement GSM module

UCM/GSM4 is a completely new GSM module with better features and is much easier to use as you can see in http://www.comfortforums.com/forum48/3647.html

For example, the status field would not be possible in the old GSM module but that is only one of the minor improvements
