ucm problem

Hi

I have had a ucm for some time and not used or connected it to comfort, however am now extending the system.

Connected ucm to comfort and changed the location to 1 (think 1672) and all LEDs do as they should.

loaded comfigurator (2.10) and tried to upload system imformation - after entering sign-in code a error message comes up \"No response from ucm\"

Can anyone help please - ucm is 5.43

This message is due to the serial port settings on the computer
in Comfigurator, goto Options > Connection and select the COM port which is used to connect the UCM to your computer
There may also be problems with the serial port on the computer

Hi

I did think that it could be to do with the port, so before posting on this fourm for help had tried using a differnt computer and differnt com settings but all i got was an error message \" port not found\". However on one computer if com1 is selected it asks for sign in code - on my other computer its com8 which then asks for the sign in code.

One computer (com1) has a serial port the other (com8) am using a usb to serial lead and driver (did think it could be that so thats why i tried the other pc with a serial port).

Any other thorghts?

Check the jumper settings in the UCM Manual
If you dont have this you can download from the website
This may be affecting your UCM

Did check that also before - havent got the ucm with me but recall it being the bottom 3 of a row of i think 7 - all are shorted - is that correct?

It is not only the ID settings, there arre other jumpers which have an effect

There is also a section on Troubleshooting which gobves some steps on what to check if you hve problems

The j2 jumper is in the rs232 and sw8 f,g,h are all shorted - appears to be correct?

I have another ucm - a old basic one with no only 3 jumpers which are all open and this ucm has no terminals. this ucm acts just the same.

The only thing that i have noticed is that d10 green flashes very slowly and d9 red flashes very very fast which seams to be the opposite to what is stated in your manual?

If you set it as UCM ID 1, SW7-A, B, C should be shunted.

SW8-F is used for UCM/Ethernet.
SW8-G would disable the STX/ETX.
SW8-H is for flow control.

All these 3 are normally unshunted for UCM01.

So, it seems that you have shorted the wrong jumpers. Please refer to the manual (https://www.cytech.biz/temp/manuals/ucmman.pdf )for more information.

You say you have 2 UCMs which are not able to communicate with the PCs? This indicates that there is a problem wit th PC serial communications
Can you try the PC serial port to another RS232 device if you have one


D10 green led is actually blinking very fast but it pauses occasionally which is the \"flash:\" that you notice

When you say all dip settings are set correctly, I gather you mean that SW7 and SW8 are both set correctly? Is SW8-F shorted and SW8-G and SW8-H opened?
If there has been done and you are unable to communicate via Comfigurator, could you post a screenshot of the settings window here so that we can we see what is the cause of the problem? Perhaps you would try to initialise (using the DS Manager) and see if that solves the problem.
