Dial Out From Doorphone using Only GSM

We are trying to setup the doorphone to dial out in away mode using only the GSM.

There is no land-line connection at the location, only mobile.

We have tried changing the settings as suggested in various forum posts including...

Setting dial out to yes in (25) Doorbell under alarm types and checking and un-checking dial out delay. Has the universal dial out delay timer been moved or is it now obsolete?

Checking and un-checking ignore line cut

Checking and un-checking wait for dial tone

Checking and un-checking seize alarm for dilouts for idle alarms

On dial-out test there is a message \"Please Hang Up\"

Please advise if we are missing something.

Dial Delay is in Telecoms > Dialing

Checking and un-checking ignore line cut

This has no effect. Line cut is for detection of the fixed telephone line

Checking and un-checking wait for dial tone

This has no effect. There is no dial tone when dialing by GSM

Checking and un-checking seize alarm for dialouts for idle alarms

Seize line applies to cutting off the home phones while doing a dial out by landline, so not related

On dial-out test there is a message \"Please Hang Up\"

Do you mean that it did dial out to the phone using GSM and the voice said \"Please Hang Up\". Otherwise where did you hear this voice?

The system dials out by GSM as a backup when there is no line
You must add or detect a UCM/GSM in the Modules Tab, and the number of UCMs must be the same or higher than the UCM/GSM ID
So if the UCM/GSM ID is 2, the Number of UCMs must be 2 or higher if you have other UCMs.
The UCM/GSM D9 (red) and D10 (green) leds must both be blinking to show that it is being polled by Comfort. Otherwise it is not communicating with Comfort due to ID  issues
Program the mobile phone in 2 numbers - as Voice Phone and as SMS phone type for testing

Do a dial test. The system will dial to the GSM phone, and then send an SMS saying \"Dial Test\"
This tests that the GSM is working

For doorphone dial out in away mode, the Dialout for dorphone alarm type must be checked and ALSO the correct phone index (any of 8 phones) associated with the mobile phone must be checked


If you have no phone line, go to Alarm Types > Non Detector alarm. in 4 - Phone Trouble, set the alarm to Null (blank). That means phone trouble will not happen.
Then uncheck Ignore line cut. This step will allow you to use a local phone to answer the doorbell even if you have no phone line. If you dont use a local phone, then never mind

The voice is heard on both the internal phone and also on the Keypad there is no indication of a successful dial out

There are 2 UCMs on the system. Both are registered. We rescanned to make sure we had made no setup error. The amount remains unchanged and the GSM is registered.

There is only one contact number. It is assigned in location 1 as SMS and location 2 as Voice. The Doorphone Alarm was programmed to dial the voice only. On selecting SMS (location 1) under doorphone alarm settings there is no change.

There is no result

This remains blank. We do get a phone trouble message on lifting the internal phones, but overlook this as there is no use for them except for answering the doorphone. The suggested setting does however stop phone trouble being
detected and then announced on the keypad as an error message.


Could the sim card be causing the error if it has data capabilities also? (Guessing)

There are certain 3G only sim cards which do not work
I believe there is a service called \"3\" in the UK which I found was not compatible
Which did you use?
Can you try a \"normal\" sim card

The Sim Card is indeed from 3. We will buy and fit another to see if this solves the problem and update accordingly. Thanks

I dont know what is the difference in these sim cards, it is not stated on the website three.co.uk

I contacted the 3 network to see if something technical could be done to sort out the problem. Unsurprisingly they could not offer technical support outside of mobile phone functionality. That\'s what I expected to hear.

So we went ahead and bought a PAYG sim from Tesco mobile (O2) and that rectified the problem immediately.

While the dialup is functional the line is quite distorted. The source of of the problem seems to be the antenna as it sounds like \"mobile interference\". We moved the antenna further from the control and separate GSM boxes and this lessened the distortion. However it is far from ideal even though we are at full distance with the supplied antenna lead (approx 1m).

Is there an extension lead available for this unit or can you advise on lessening the interference? Thanks

Check that the antenna is securely plugged in to the socket
If it is loose it may cause noise
There should be a battery connected to comfort to provide a stable voltage
There is an ADM02 to extend the gsm module away from the main comfort - perhaps the reception is not good at that location
The adm02 has connectors to extend the 5 audio wires for the gsm module

The antenna is securely plugged in - its the 1st thing we checked and the battery is hooked up.

The problem is likely reception or proximity to the main board or other modules in the control room. Two ADM02\'s will most probably alleviate the problem. Is there a max. distance for these units (in meters)?

Yes I forgot you need 2 ADM02s
Few 10s of meters should be no problem
Use shielded cable for the audio and if possible separate cat 5 from the digital 4 wires
But I doubt you have to go that far
