Hope you can assist. After 3 years, my comfort powerpack (16v 1.5amps) has recently (last 2 days) started getting very hot. Also I noticed that the lead acid battery is also warm. Any ideas what could cause this?

Overheating of the battery indiicates that your power supply voltage may be too high
If you can, measure the voltage of the 12V terminals without the battery connected
The voltage should be 13.8 to 14.0 volts. If it higher than that you need to replace the transformer or plug pack. As you are in rhe US, any UL approved 16V 40 VAC type should work

This is a switched mode power supply
Are you trying to replace the mains transformer or the Battery?
If the Mains (AC) then none of them is suitable. You can use a DC power supply to go into the Comfort AC terminals but the voltage should be 16 to 19 V DC which this trange does not have
If you want this to replace the battery it defeats the purpose because you would lose power when the AC fails
